It reminds me of when a video game pulls the whole "put this thing in that thing. Oops, that was the wrong thing. Try this thing instead," gag. Borderlands 3 had a mission like that. It's always the wrong thing twice and then the right thing the third time. If it was the wrong thing once, the whole ordeal feels pointless. If it was the wrong thing three times or more, it's an annoying waste of time. I guess the saying "third time's a charm" has some truth in it.
