they made him petty, they pulled a weakness out of a character who typically doesnt have any. but the way they made him care so much about getting constantine humanized him, made him more relatable. the simple act of making him have such a strong desire for 1 individual person was just a great move. it brought a depth to a character most wouldnt expect to have or need.

I think the director coming from a music video background elevated this film on another level. It's stylized, well paced, beautiful, and smart. The time it came out, 2005, was a year of heavily stylized movies, like Batman Begins, Hard Candy, and the choices helped it stand out among the others. Also, the Devil, alone, is my all time favorite portrail in a movie. I can definitely see reminents of music video directing and editing in it, which I appreciate. Love this movie.

It has to nothing to do if you don't care about that stuff, or if I care about it. It just means the truth; I stated a fact: the movie is blasphemous. The writers knew it, the producers knew it, the directors knew it. Now, that doesn't mean the movie was bad. I love the movie. It was great. But I also knew it was blasphemous. I was able to handle it, but not many people can, since it blatantly mocks and ridicules the Catholic and Christian religions. I understand that. FWIW I know now that I enjoy letting go in a well-made movie and going along for the ride. Well after, your take on those movies has been awesome to get, perhaps especially for making me slow down and consider things from a different perspective. Which is invariably kind and respectful of the process and the people involved. Ever may it be thus. Cheers from Brisbane on a balmy evening.

It's an interesting point, especially given the way so many shows and movies have been written and made in more recent times. It seems that many creators have forgotten that there needs to be give and take in a story to make the watcher identify with a character. If you write a character so that they never experience any lows, the highs never feel as high. While a story about an obviously overpowered character who never has any downsides can itself be a good story, not every story benefits from that sort of thing. People identify with things they're familiar with, even in ridiculous out-there sci-fi and fantasy stories.

I find it so fascinating, the whole movie process. One guy has a vision, and it morphs and spawns and regurgitates in the minds of so many others to become something more, something with form where once there was only the slight scent of a vapor. To be a writer and see their words transformed on film, must be the most incredible thing ever. I will never stop loving movies.

That ending scene though, they make you think he's going to light a cigarette and puts gum in his mouth instead. Just hits so nicely. I hope they make a second one especially after the clip that went around of them asking Keanu if he could make any sequal, it would be this one.
