BETTER plot TWIST: The kid has immunity to the virus, thus, his biting transmits said immunity and protects whoever he bites. He's just trying to help those strangers. The father gets angry because the town needs victims for some bizarre or paranormal reason. Residents have been relying on the contaminated water to do the job.
@Masaaki_Taba Жыл бұрын
So the guy who first he bites, doesn't show symptoms, even if he drank the water or even submerged in it. Nor when he kisses the infected friend. And the second guy that the kid bites, slowly recovers from the infection. They could have played around that, otherwise the kid biting them had no purpose. I genuinely thought it was going in that direction. But hey, i didn't watch the movie.

Except that's literally impossible, you dont get immunity from being bitten by someone who is. The most you'll get is an infection because human bites are full of bacteria.

I thought folk horror was where this movie was going, so I just... Don't get why it isn't? There's a flesh eating virus in the water and no one is even talking about it? They're not warning the kids about it, but also immediately aggro when they find out anything has it? Like, are they just looking for an excuse to kill people who get infected? Clearly they're not immune because the lady has to cull her own pigs, the husband gets it, and the dad mentions losing a kid to it already, so what exactly are they drinking? Like if it's just a murder movie, it doesn't need all this.
@serioustable8659 Жыл бұрын
@@rylog8 I was thinking the same thing, it really doesn't make any sense at all. If they don't want the disease spreading why not warn people about it, try to do something about it, rather than just sitting around like it's no big deal. But then they go out of their way to murder anyone who gets the disease, like why put all the effort into containing it by killing people but no effort to contain it by preventing people from getting it in the first place? And if they hate city people they could've made the movie about a backward ass murder cult and that would've been way better even if other movies have done it, that's still better than this nonsensical mess
@ermosazorius4279 Жыл бұрын
In this case there is no point in him severing his hand. The disease has already spread through him. The moment it got to his blood his whole body was infected in under a minute. Removing a limb is done to get rid of dead or infected body parts. (A more standard injury infection not a bloodborne pathogen.) It's the same reason cutting a limb off after a zombie bite would be useless.

I like how you included that zombie bit very matter-of-fact as if zombies are a real thing and therefore there aren’t no arbitrary rules as to how they work lol
@Zach-zp4jr Жыл бұрын
Your blood cycles through your body 12 times an hour. Meaning it would take five minutes for the initially contaminated blood to return to the point of infection. Assuming you had a perfectly linear and streamlined flow, which most people don't. You could theoretically cut contamination off at the source before its to late.
@ermosazorius4279 Жыл бұрын
@@Zach-zp4jr Doesn't need to spread through your whole body for it to be too late. Using that math in about 30 seconds the infection has now moved through 10% of its full course. Now since you are severing something in an attempt to survive it is already partway through that course as severing you torso isn't a good idea. Now say you get infected at the top of your arm and it hits arteries but no veins. 1 minute would cover 20% of its course which should already have it leaving the arm and thus making severing it pointless. Not to mention that this is at rest. Your blood pumps faster when you exert yourself or are anxious. You might have about 45 seconds to a minute to apply a tourniquet and sever the entire arm in the best case scenario. Not impossible but pretty close to it. So Perhaps your whole body wouldn't be infected like I said at first but you are likely still fucked.

There was no hope for these characters from the moment they drank the tap water. Long before symptoms were present on their flesh, the disease was already eating away at soft tissue and epithelial walls. Open wounds merely gave easier access to a starting point for the rot to rampage at the surface. By the time these people were vomiting blood and unable to move, most of their non-essential organs were liquified, and the rest were probably on their way out. The difference in innoculation times between victims is merely a testament to how hard their immune system fought to save them. The disease itself carries traits of both viral haemorrhagic fever (like Ebola), and bacterial necrotizing faciitis, but it has yet to be confirmed as either in this continuity.

If I was going to have a vacation with my friends in some secluded cabin in the forest, the first thing I'd look up the local area from the internet and learn what types of dangers there can be, from diseases to predators. In the movie we learn that Lyme disease is prominent in the region, so long sleeved clothing is a must. I'd bring my own bottled water, several bottles to last for the whole vacation because I've learned that tap water isn't safe everywhere. So unless I know how the tap water is processed or where it's pumped from, it's good to have your own reserve water. I wouldn't want to catch a stomach bug and spend the rest of the vacation on toilet in diarrhea or vomiting. And at this point I wouldn't even know that this flesh-eating bacteria was spreading around. I'd also bring along a tick removal kit. Just in case. If I was the one who came across a person who was clearly in pain and, upon closer inspection, had severe boils or skin lesions, and I had a gun, I'd tell him that I will help him, but he has to keep his distance. I didn't find about a serious disease that can cause such large-scale skin lesions from the internet, so I don't know how contagious it can be. I'd tell him to follow me to the Cabin and on the way ask him questions. Who are you? When did the symptoms begin? What did he do before the symptoms that could have started the infection? Once at the cabin, I'd tell him to wait outside and tell my friends while warning them to stay away. Then go with a couple of my friends to report the about the diseased man and relay the information what I have. The apparent symptoms and whatever he answered to my questions. I'd also tell the authorities on the phone that I wouldn't dare to check on the man any closer in the fear of contagion. On the other hand, if it wasn't me who discovered the diseased man, I would first ask my friend what happened. If they refuse to answer, I let it go for now. Then later on that day after his shock has subsided better talk to him about it again. If the man does come back again, I'd try to defuse the situation of what my friend did and try to offer the man help while keeping away from him. If he tries to leave with the car, then I'd probably try to threaten him with the gun and shoot if he doesn't oblige. Wondering who the f left the car doors unlocked and the keys in the ignition. If one of my friends have started to show the symptoms, the first thing I'd do is indeed get the f up in the car and drive to the nearest hospital. By this time I had seen what the disease is like in the advanced stage from the diseased man, so getting to a hospital is priority one. Calling 911 the first thing we get a signal. Then I hope we all get quarantined. If not by the authorities, then I'd suggest to my friends to quarantine for however long we had been in the cabin. From the movie I assume the first symptoms appeared after three days, so that would be a 72-hour quarantine. Of course, I wouldn't return back to the cabin. I'd rather hold that quarantine in a motel or something like that if the hospital refuses it. Although I doubt why would they, because I'd be insisting that I've seen the disease in an advanced stage and that it could be highly contagious.

Of note, cutting off a limb to cut off a blood borne disease will not do anything to actually stop it, you would need to immediately do so, as in within a few seconds of exposure, otherwise the blood would have already flowed from the wound elsewhere in the body, all you would be doing is seriously injuring yourself and drastically limiting your mobility from the lost limb, blood loss, and pain.
@catsquidcatoverlord9842 Жыл бұрын
To be completely honest lime disease carrying ticks are fairly widespread nowadays, pretty much any wooded area or area with tall enough grass even can hold ticks. Cancelling or getting a refund in a wooded area because there are ticks that could carry lime disease would be completely unreasonable. It just comes down to checking for them frequently and keeping something on you to remove the tick properly in that the head stays intact so it can be tested for carrying lime. As if it does and you catch it within the first 30 days its basically a simple treatment of a course of antibiotics, if you don't catch it early yes it can lead to serious long term issues. This is from someone who has a family member who got lime and did not know about it at the time, and this was back when lime was not really taken seriously so it took years before eventually saw a doctor who actually knew about it and was able to provide treatment, which the delay in treatment resulted in permanent nerve damage. TLDR: Ticks are a serious concern, but not something you can realistically avoid or cancel trips due to them, just know to check for them, carefully remove any found and keep them for testing, and go to the doctor as soon as you can if you have before it becomes a serious issue.

@reesemartin3285 Жыл бұрын
The town is covering up the disease due to the water they store and sell. I don't think it's portrayed in this movie as much as the first one. But it's kind of a hidden detail of the movie/theory
@cleverdlebberschnebrelic8016 Жыл бұрын
The thing is though, in both movies it starts with dog that sprays the hermit guy but we aren’t sure how the dog got it. But it wasn’t in the water until the hermit dude fell in the reservoir but technically the prequel (patient zero) explains that the disease ended up in the Pacific Ocean.
@reesemartin3285 Жыл бұрын
@@cleverdlebberschnebrelic8016 yeah it was an zoonotic disease and happened to jump to humans. Animals been spreading it around. Now being able to transmit through water bodily fluids and probably air too

30:08 he mentions severing a limb to stop the spread of infection, via the blood stream. I doubt this would work as blood and there the virus gets pumped around the body very quickly. So by the time he managed to amputate the infection would have spread beyond the cut off point.

The original's sequel raveled that he illness was mutated Narcotizing factitious so it's a bacteria not a virus. Narcotizing factitious is in fact one of the few things IRL where lopping off the infected area is a viable (if last ditch) treatment. The problem in the movies is a lot of the infected drank, bathed and/or showered in the bacteria (which unlike the real world version doesn't need a wound to get past the skin barrier) and so it too wide spread on their bodies for that to work
@sparklinggrimm532 Жыл бұрын
In the original, I always thought he got infected by falling into the water right next to the guy (Eyes, nose, and mouth) but tvtropes says he was actually infected by Marci.
@ashleighstratmann7783 Жыл бұрын
It's best bet to say the water well behind the convenient store isn't contaminated with the flesh eating bacteria considering how fast Burt and Karen and Marcy got sick after contaminated water at the cabin while Paul realized infected after realizing the lake was contaminated with infectious disease. At least not until after Winston dropped Paul off by at the edge creek near the store in the original.

21:16... I mean even before this point the fact some random stranger came up and basically was like "free weed" to total strangers might suggest the weed was laced with something and then the fact the officer only cared about wither or not they would have accepted the weed or not without directly saying it makes it all that much more suspicious. Even without any further context in that situation I would assume the guy with the free weed probably had it laced with something and even though he consumed it as well we couldn't rule out that it is something he had the antidote for and so only used it to earn our trust that it wasn't laced though in reality it was and he took a gamble that he could get back to get the antidote before the disease could take effect. Like it would be one thing if it was some random frat kid that goes to the same school offering the drugs, but the fact it was some random stranger makes it very suspicious, there are very few reasons why someone would want to give away free drugs, either they tampered with it, they are in the same social circles, or they are trying to get you to buy from them, and seeing as they are not in the same social circles, and that they are tourist and so would not be a potential long term customer, that only leaves one logical reason to act in such a way.

Firstly, somebody should've acknowledged the pollution to everybody because then nobody would be infected. But afterwards, the next major step would be to have very intelligent and passionate individuals prevent the pollution from spreading with massive filtering and mixed compounds. This would significantly prevent anybody from becoming infected from contact, on ingestion, and kill all traces of bacteria. Additionally, anywhere that's been impacted already should be completely locked down without anybody entering or leaving, unless they're clean, so this problem is permanently resolved. The outbreak got out of control merely because of stupidity and irresponsible individuals not acting sooner and preventing their own endangerments.

I mean with how rapid the disease is, wither bacterial, viral, fungal, or parasitical, you don't beat it, if you just happen to have antibiotics or antivirals left over from the last time you were sick and for some reason brought them with you you could try them to see if they help at all, if it doesn't do anything then your best option is to just give up and voluntarily stop your ability to breath in order to do two things, try to prevent the spread to anyone else because if it is viral or bacterial then you breath a lot of that out and could be contagious through the moisture in your breath and also to prevent an agonizingly painful death because even if it kills you in hours having a belt help slow your breathing you pass out and don't feel all that much, having something eat your skin and muscles is going to be extremely painful if it doesn't disable the nervous system first and with that type of pain even just minutes of that type of pain can feel like days or even weeks because time moves differently when you are focused on ungodly levels of pain. My question though is why would they be consuming the water without boiling it first? Out in the middle or the woods you have to assume the plumbing isn't all that well maintained and so should be boiling your water to kill any parasites or bacteria in it before consuming it anyways... but also going back in the video it wasn't the last survivor that had agreed to drink nothing but beer, he was the one who who challenge Bert to "do the same", so there is an error in who should have been the last one standing if it was the water because it was Bert who was the person on the "only beer" dare not Jeff, Jeff was the one who made the dare, yet it was Jeff that was the last one alive.

At the mention of ticks, I have one limiting factor, DEET duration. It must be reapplied, and there is only so much DEET you have. That means I'd probably only stay two or three days, at most. I'd also avoid drugs and venturing beyond the cabin/lake. I'd also bring my own supplies and a Sat Phone at minimum. I suspect this was waterborne. Which is why I would bring my own supplies. Long short, these five made a stupid mistake by not taking *any* of the proper precautions, save for the gun. The dog would be a problem, clearly. Word to the wise: Know how to camp properly and you will survive. Also, don't visit the town as you have everything you need with you ideally. (That kid was infected to start with, obviously.)
