Personal anecdote: I was in 6th grade when this movie was released. I grew up in a small town where the local theater was a 10 minute walk from the school. One day, the teachers all conspired to give the students a homework assignment, and told us that if we completed the assignment and returned it the next day, we would all get a special surprise. The next day, all classes were cancelled in the afternoon, and the students who completed the assignment were ordered to stand in the hallway and wait for further instructions. The teachers then escorted us all to the movie theater, where we were treated to a showing of TMNT 2, along with popcorn and drinks. The kids who did not do the assignment had to stay at school.

1) the more comedic fight scenes didn't really detract from the movie, and it's not like there isn't a long precedent of comedic fight scenes in Hollywood (Jackie Chan, anyone?) 2) I'd assume the Turtles probably get most of their money from the pocket change that people drop down a storm drain (or, in the case of the opening of the movie, maybe April gives them an allowance; they _are_ teenagers, after all) 3) No, the ooze being alien in origin is stupid. Having it be just a random mix of chemicals is more believable, and the scene where Donatello expresses disappointment at this revelation is very powerful and can be interpreted as a metaphor for any number of things (kids finding out that they're the result of a one-night stand, young adults finding out that their parents gave them false praise, etc) 4) Tokka and Rahzar aren't _actually_ babies, they just have the mental abilities of one. The professor mentions that he did something to their mutagen to make them dumber, and when you see them unmutated, those are clearly an adult snapping turtle and wolf (which you probably shouldn't have those in a club with a bunch of people...)
@otaking35824 жыл бұрын
@giftofgab247 1) How is using a yo-yo stupid? It's not exactly the most powerful of weapons, but it's essentially a mid-range boomerang that has its weight more condensed, meaning it hits much harder. Plenty of other fictional characters use yo-yos quite effectively in combat, such as Ness from Earthbound, Bridget from Guilty Gear, Blue Jr from the Viewtiful Joe anime, etc. The sausages are still kinda stupid, but they probably wanted Michelangelo to use his nunchucks as little as possible so that the movie wouldn't get butchered in the UK. 3) Just because the aliens were in the comics, that doesn't necessarily make it better. Imagine if the spider that bit Peter Parker was actually a spider goddess that gave him super powers because he happened to do a report on her. That's something that actually happened in Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, and people hated it because it was stupid (among the musical's various other problems).
@otaking35824 жыл бұрын
@giftofgab247 Yeah, lots of other people have commented on how the nunchuck vs yo-yo debate is stupid, but I didn't make the laws in 80's and 90's UK, I just report them (although maybe this was an attempt at political satire, pointing out how the law was stupid? Who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) And you can still have aliens in the TMNT universe without having them related to their origin. Again, using Spider-Man as an example, one of his most well-known villains is Venom, a freakin' alien! And while you could argue "Well the Venom Symbiote was introduced in a crossover with a bunch of other Marvel heroes and villains, so having aliens suddenly appear isn't completely out of nowhere", but even in other stories where Secret Wars isn't a thing, the Symbiote still comes from outer space! I bring this up as an example of how these ideas _can_ work together.

Had Ninja Turtles 3 not have bombed, there would have been a fourth movie called The Next Mutation (no relation). It would have dealt with the turtles and Splinter finding out that their mutations haven't completed and they develop new powers. Mikey would have developed a human-like appearance that would allow him to go to the surface, Donnie's eyesight would have faded and he would make special goggles that would allow him to see better, Leo would change his skin to a chrome-like surface, Raph would turn more monstrous, and Splinter would bulk up. There would have also been a fifth turtle named Kirby. The accelerated mutating was later put in the later seasons of the Fred Wolf cartoon and the idea of a fifth turtle was put in The Next Mutation.

Keno is such a terrible character to hang a movie like this on. His entire backstory is that he's a pizza boy. That's all we get. His arc? None. He's the same little twerp who condescends to everyone, right up to ninja masters, and he never learns a goddamn thing. Contrast with Danny, from the first movie. Danny had less screen time than Keno, and in that time we get that he's a troubled kid, who has a strained relationship with his workaholic father, falls in with a gang of ninja thieves, gets arrested, gets bailed out, used as leverage to get April fired, runs off to join the Foot clan full time, before eventually finding redemption, a surrogate family that doesn't boost stereos, and a second chance with his father. Again, Keno is a rude pizza boy. Who kicks.

24:40 (For your next review) Okay, McClane, just because your ex would sell out doesn't mean you should too. I could take your poorly executed musical career any day than see you at Cinemax. I mean, it's bad enough if someone from Saved by the Bell would top them....

Fun fact. David Warner is from my home town. That’s not really important, I just like to take every opportunity to point that out because...reasons. Also, one of his lines is about messing with the Ooze to make Tokka and Razhar retarded. Yep, that is actually a thing

This two-part series is fantastic. A grown man looking back on a nostalgic property while being willing to pick apart the dumber aspects of it. Also congrats for complaining about damsels in distress without getting on your feminist high horse about it.

BREAKING NEWS: Per a video statement posted to the Razzies’ KZbin page and official website, “Cats” has been named the runaway 2019 winner for Worst Picture-meaning it will now be officially added to Sean’s marathon for said winners. (May God have mercy on your soul, my poor dude...:P)

Thoughts: And we're back! Let's end this! Bay's TMNT movies were worse! Next time back to the Razzies! Great anniversary special! To more episodes this decade! Cheers! 🍻

If only people would just stop with blaming Bay for everything. He didn't even direct those TMNT films--the first one was by Jonathan Liebsman and the second by Dave Green. Just because someone infamous is involved in something does not mean they directed it. If only you guys would do a little something called research.

So, soccer moms complained about the first movie being "too violent" for the kiddies, but were totally fine with them advocating an all-pizza diet?! And yet, they were totally fine with kids watching Star Wars Episodes V and VI, Back to the Future, Part I, Ghostbusters (1984) and the Indiana Jones movies which had more violence and sexual inuendoes than this movie?!

Oh, don't forget a movie that came later that parents and teachers were fine with: "The Passion of the Christ". I say "teachers" because I distinctly remember that film being required viewing for my class in my K-8 Catholic school, and I was in 6th grade when that film was released.

Even though I love Siskel and Ebert, I have my gripes with them. One of them being that they get so concerned on how kids react to dark, complex, and frightening stories. So of course they gave thumbs down to the live action TMNT films for it's violence.

Confession, the third one is actually my favourite, but yeah your criticisms are fair. ETA: Though my favourite TMNT franchise is still the 2003 cartoon.

@@matthewdaley746 Objectively they are absolutely worse than the first. But I just can't help that I love the third one.
