People... The story just explained the plot of Wicked, but it's important to understand that all of these stories are different, they are not like a real movie series. L. Frank Baum wrote a children's story, "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," in 1900. In 1939, MGM made a movie based on L. Frank Baum's book. Due to its popularity, Gregory Maguire wrote "Wicked" in 1995, essentially fan fiction. In his story, Maguire provides a backstory for the witches of Oz, but L. Frank Baum has nothing to do with it. It's just fan fiction. In 2013, Disney made their own interpretation of the Wizard of Oz origin with "Oz the Great and Powerful". Please understand that these stories are not a series. After the 1939 movie, all of them are just interpretations that allow us to imagine new possibilities for the world of Oz.

I always thought that Glinda talking to the Munchkinlanders at the start of Wicked takes place before she heads off to the Emerald City to tell Dorothy how to get home. In the movie we see Dorothy is on her way to Oz suggesting that Glinda hasn't been there yet. Also Glinda says she has to go as she has things to do, which I assumed was that she needed to get to the Emerald City.

Or she could have told him he needs to go asap and she went to address the citizens before they came to the wizard or her for answers. Dorothy arrives to the wizard while Glindas talking to the munchkins. The wizard initially turns dorothy away not bc he sent her on a dummy mission and thought she wouldn’t make it but because glinda told him to gtf so he was trying to go asap he didn’t have time to try to keep up the facade by “fixing” all their problems. UNTIL toto found him and exposed him and he had no choice but to face them so he could leave unscathed that’s why all the gifts are BS he pulled them out his butt so he could fast track his way back home and all he had to do is offer dorothy a ride whether she decided to go or not is up to her. So glinda thought he left or knew he was leaving that’s why she said “unexpected departure “

As much as I would have loved seeing Margaret Hamilton win an Oscar for her outstanding role, it would have meant Hattie McDaniel would not have won her groundbreaking Oscar. This is like making a timeline for Batman using the 1960s show, the Burton films, and the Nolan films. They all have the same source material, but they are not connected to each other. Why not add the 1985 film "Return to Oz" to the timeline? Wicked is based on a revisionist novel set in Oz; it's not a "real" prequel. What would be amazing is if someone made an accurate telling of the Baum stories. Baum wrote 14 books and another 13 were written after his death. Using the original source material would seem new since most people who know the 1939 movie never read the books.

There is one major problem with this video, the wicked movie provides new details regarding the wizards origin that you failed to mention, as well as more background on the history of Oz itself. Many years earlier, the magical wise one's made a spell book called the grimmerie which only they could read. Before they died they left a prophecy stating that in Oz's darkest hour there will come one with the power to read the grimmerie again. So when Oscar Diggs arrived in his balloon they speculated that he was the chosen one, and showed him the grimmerie, when in front of it he pretended to be able to read it by just repeating "Omaha" over and over again and the people of Oz fell for his trick and hailed him a Wizard. However, despite not being the real chosen one, his daughter Elphaba turns out to actually be the chosen one, due to being a child of both Oz and the real world. It's never confirmed, but highly theorized by Wicked fans that Madame Morrible conjured up the storm that brought Oscar to Oz so she could rise to power.

Fun Fact in the original Oz book, the Wizard is from Omaha. If you haven't read the Wicked book, I strongly recommend it. It goes into many more details than the play. Also the Grimmerie has a TOTALLY different origin, and in my opinion it's actually slightly better fleshed out and gives a better explanation on why Elphaba can read it. In the book the Wizard can read it, but due to having no magic nothing really happens when he does, but he is pretty sure he can have others work it for him (and again, there's a reason why he can read it).

One thing I don't get is the balloon is destroyed when Elphaba and Glinda try to escape in the movie. But according to this timeline and the original movie, the Wizard subsequently escapes in the balloon, which is now intact again (and the only one of its kind).
