Originally Wookies were the creatures on Endor. But go back in time to 1976 and none of this was yet released or a success. There was a giant possibility the film would fail and the second and third films never see light. This is primarily why Ep 4 feels like a condensed version of the trilogy. Mr. Lucas liked the Wookie so much he re-wrote the script for 4, the original co-pilot of the Falcon was scrapped and he made the co-pilot a Wookie. If the film had failed and he had not done this, no one today would know what a Wookie is. When the film was a success, and a few years later faced with the dilemma of Endor Wookies, the simplest solution was to cut them in half and make them more primitive. The Ewok, for better or worse, was born. And that is what Mr. Lucas said himself in a video interview with Leonard Maltin back in the early 1990s before the Special Edition version was released.

George Lucas made Wookies into Ewoks because of the Kenner action figues. I was a kid back then. We all already had Chewy, some of us were onto our second lot of figures cos the originals had been lost or set of fire or whatever. Then suddenly there's these cute little teddy figures, four or five in different sizes & colours with little spears & these headscarf things you could remove & Luke & Leia in their forest camo fatigues, you had to have Luke & Leia in forest camo fatigues & if you didn't have a speeder that broke into bits when you pressed the button disguised as a utility pack you were an asshole tbh... It was a marketing ploy & boy did we fall for it.

The "Blue Harvest," fake production title wasn't just to avoid attracting crowds, it was primarily so the production wouldn't be price-gouged by vendors. If all the contractors and local vendors in and around the shooting locations, outside the studio, knew it was the third Star Wars movie, they could jack up the prices of their services. And there wouldn't be a THING Lucasfilm could do about it, once the information was out. They still do it now, Rian Johnson used, "Space Bear," whenever they shot scenes outside the studio, on location. If he used, "Star Wars episode 8!" everything would have cost them massive amounts more.

#7 is inaccurate. "Return of the Jedi" actually WAS Lucas' original title but Gary Kurtz thought THAT was a weak title and that it should be titled "Revenge of the Jedi" instead. After the falling out between Lucas and Kurtz, Lucas went back to the title he originally had in mind since he thought the word "revenge" was too sinister for the conclusion of his story.

I remember the petition for an actual Death Star and I asked myself "Why would we need it?" We have no intergalactic foes and using it against our enemies here on the ground ensures mutual destruction for the country who has it fired. It's the planetoid version of the tried-and-true nuclear deterrent that is keeping us and Russia (and any other nation with nukes) alive in this day and age. The Death Star was a planet destroyer. Add in the gravitational pull something that big would not do us any favors at all either. Sure, both Death Stars are smaller than our moon but combine the moon's gravity with that of just the first Death Star and the tides would gain a lot of power and wipe out the seaboards. Me thinks the petitioners didn't think it through at all, never mind the Death Stars' flaws being exploited by a single man star fighter. Besides...with Episode VII now showing a bigger gun (in a manner of speaking), the Death Stars' firepower no longer looks that impressive. They're peashooters now. It is as Vader said in Episode 4: "The ability to destroy a planet is nothing compared to the power of the Force". Just substitute the Force for that "bigger gun" I mentioned above.

The only people who think RETURN OF THE JEDI "was never the legendary sequel that Empire Strikes Back was"... are people who weren't alive when it came out. Yeah it's become very fashionable to pick apart ROTJ on the internet, but I was born in the early 70's, totally grew up with the Original Trilogy and I don't remember ANYBODY harshly criticizing ROTJ until after The Phantom Menace came out in 1999, and divided the Star Wars fandom. Only then did everyone start hyper-analyzing every bit of Star Wars and looking for things to complain about. Growing up in the 80's we all loved Star Wars and every kid I knew back then, thought each movie was bigger and better than the one before it. Among us "first generation Star Wars kids", there was a pretty unanimous opinion that ROTJ was "the best", and that held for many years.

Wish you guys will get your facts straight before you called them facts. I'm two minutes into it and already found a big mistake in your discussion. The original title for episode 6 was Return of the Jedi. But Lucas's co-producers insisted that Return of the Jedi was a weak title so they opted him to change it to revenge of the Jedi a much more aggressive strong sounding title. Moments before the final editing was finished Lucas change the name back to Return of the Jedi arguing that of Jedi would never seek revenge. His other excuse was also he did not want his movie be confused with the Wrath of Khan which at the time was called revenge of Khan.
