Robert Richardson is the kind of filmmaker I aspire to be. Dedicated and honest, yet willing to work with and be inspired by others for the sake of storytelling.

Let me recommend JFK and Nixon right away if you haven’t yet. The 2 are sort of companion films.

I’ve been working as a cinematographer for 14 years and never use an eye piece. I have my own external monitor I use to capture how I and the director want it to be shown on screen. For me the eyepiece has been a hindrance more so than a help. To each their own though.

I have been a fan of his since his early days with Oliver Stone. I have always loved his work, his overhead hot lighting was always so cool to me. There are a lot of cinematographers I would like to see spotlighted, but my request would be Allen Daviau.

Thanks for your request Eli! Allen Daviau was a legend, we'll definitely add him to our list

i wish their was a true debate on film vs digital when they are sitting next to each other Robert Richardson is all about film and Roger Deakin is about digital two different worlds. i cant agree more on number 2 especially in this age of filmaking he is not wrong you hear Deakin taking a shot at him saying your so old fashion lame
@AlterCineYT3 жыл бұрын
Hey, just to mention Robert Richardson isn't all about film, he's actually quite open to using digital and have used digital on projects like Hugo. We didn't include the section about him discussing film vs digital because we don't think that's a useful advice, however, he said that although he loves the look of film, he's completely open to shooting on digital and sees great value in using digital for the speed (very much in line with the way Deakins thinks). The ability to shoot high ISO allowed him to think in a completely different way with lighting that didn't require a lot of lights. Also the point "you're so old fashioned Bob" was a joke made by Caleb Deschanel (who was also in that discussion)

Story and immersion of the environment takes over any tool. Film or digital, shoot with what suits the narrative but precedent is story and immersion of the world characters are in. At least how I see it.
@Kamandi19713 жыл бұрын
@@AlterCineYT dont tell that. To QT and Nolan and many others

@@kolecava Agreed. Robert along with many other top cinematographers we have profiled all think this way. Story over any tool!

@@kolecava I do agree the story is what s important. The tools are secondary
