Cineplex is also in a big lawsuit for charging customers an additional $1.50/ticket as an online booking fee that isn't advertised in the price of the ticket. They are really doing everything in their power to make the average movie goer not want to go to the cinema.

Ohh, that's interesting! Crazy how sich a policy goes for every theatre. Here in my town in Germany, that also happened last year or so. When I found out I was so pissed! I've been collecting tickets ever since I was a child. Now you also can't reserve the ticket anymore, so you could just arrive half an hour early and pay then. That's how it has been forever! Made me so mad. Everything digital now, always every fucking company wants your data! So I paid the extra 3 bucks for my ticket and my two friends tickets, took my bicycle because it was like the second nice day of the year and rode my bike to the theater many hours before, so we could get nice seats for Dune.

I don’t know about theatres in the US but at Cineplex they also pack their “preshow” with car ads. After spending this much on tickets and popcorn, they still throw ads in your face. A 6:30 showing might start at 6:50. It’s crazy. Cineplex sucks.

Yeah that's definitely how most theater chains are in the US. The only reason to get there on time is because you don't want to crawl over people already sitting down. It's definitely not starting on time.

Dont even get me started on the popcorn and soda prices. I dont believe I am missing out on anything when I can just sit on my butt and wait 45 days and it will show up on some streaming web sight that only const me like $15 a month.

Dune 2 is not going to be a huge blockbuster like Avatar 2, Top Gun, Mario, Barbie, etc. Theaters are hurting for revenue. The numbers are bad this quarter. John Campea is crying crocodile tears about his 'Church', but he only cares about collecting views and making money. This whole video was intentionally unhinged. It was manufactured drama. John knows that price tickets vary for matinee, 3D, and IMAX. He knows that ticket prices will go up and down (especially during hard economic times). He's just taking advantage of the situation to line his own pockets. Very sad.
@PopCultureBuddy
@PopCultureBuddy 11 ай бұрын
@@KeepDreamin247 Not true at all. We all understand there are pricing differences for IMAX, Matinee, etc. The difference here is that they are charging more for Dune 2 compared to other movies showing in the same format. With inflation and the state of the economy, it is not wise to price gouge customers even more. People feel even more burned and are less likely to return. The movie theaters are meant for EVERYONE, no matter your socio economic status. And if movie theaters become an elite status event for rich people, then we can all say good bye to movie theaters.

Bend over to get spanked by the worse possible experience - knowing full well you're paying more for what I more likely to suffer from darker movies due to all their screens being 3D projectors. 3 isn't exactly encouging people to go to the cinema unless the movie is something they can NOT live without. I've lost count how many times I've had to sit through a movie that is just too dark.

I still think going to a theatre is the best way to experience certain movies but I’m finding more and more that the experience is only positive while I’m watching the movie, everything before and after is getting worse. Like when they say the movie starts at “7:00” but really it starts at 7:20 because they have to blast 20 minutes of adds in your face first. Or the popcorn and drink that cost the same amount as your imax ticket. I get that they are trying to recover from the pandemic but you have to make it enjoyable for people to go out of their way and give you their money for more people to come back, not just up charge the last remaining loyal customers.

Consumers do not need dynamic pricing and subscription services for everything. I can see how it would benefit theaters in the short term, but I just see it as an additional payment on the remaining movie goer audience. I don't think dynamic pricing will reverse theaters' death spiral. Seems like it would accelerate it.

I've not been to a cinema in years, and shit like this is why. My cinema memories are mostly from the 90s when it was affordable enough to go on a whim with your mates as a teenager, and that was a great way to discover new and exciting movies. Now it's so expensive that actual planning and saving is required. No risk taking, or just showing up and deciding there and then on the basis of "That looks interesting". It's turned into a massive grift, so now I just wait and watch at home.

I can barely afford to go to the movies up here because our leading grocery chain has been fucking us over since then end of the lockdowns. Rent skyrocketed everywhere across the country. Minimum wage was raised then prices went up to compensate for businesses having to pay more out of pocket to their employees, so that didn't matter. If I wait another month I can see it a bunch of times at the nearest rep cinema for what one ticket would have cost me at a Cineplex. Garbage.

The perfect strategy to make sure that I will never go to your theater specifically. I go to maybe 5 movies a year, I can't afford more than that. Stadiums, stage theaters, opera houses, and symphony halls have been doing this and worse since... forever. Ticket prices usually range from $25 to $600 for a show, depending on where you are seated. At some of the higher price tiers, you do get some extra perks, like a private coatroom and individual chairs as opposed to stadium seating. And the prices always depend on the cost of the production and popularity of the show. And they adjust prices on different days and times like airlines do. It's almost surprising to me that movie theaters have largely NOT done this sooner.

With pricing I haven't taken my kids to see a movie since before covid. Both Landmark and Cineplex have this illusion that one night at the movies is worth more than a weeks worth of groceries. I go maybe once or twice a year for dates. Usually we hold out to wait for home release on streaming and do the theatre experience at home. It doesnt help that one of the 2 Cineplex theatres in town has a rep for stabbings and harrassment when you leave the theatre. At this point the movies are only for those really well off, not the average Canadian.

Is hiring AI for everything even at theaters, cuz it’s more money in their pockets with no employees who could get injured working there…. It’s either GREED or cuz of voting for a Government that won’t stop them; but incentives it. 🤦🏻‍♀️

It's called Surge Pricing. They've been doing it in Canada since the last Starwars. Landmark just follows Cineplex's lead. The head of operations there is a Cineplex reject who is as smart as a wet fart. Cineplex and Cineplex light murdering Canadian Movie theatres one dumb decision at a time.

Hey John, what are your thoughts on Alamo Drafthouse?

I have a Flix Brewhouse in my town, and it has undoubtedly saved the theatrical experience for me. Tickets are cheaper, beer is decent and priced fairly, clean, always some re-releases I want to see (Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction coming up), and ordering from the theater means I don't have to miss the movie because I wanted a drink. I love it and it raised my standards for moviegoing.

Bro, this rant was so manufactured and fake. It's pathetic. John loves to pretend that he's angry because he knows that people like his toxic behavior. Even worse, the rant had no actual substance. John, in his old age, must've forgotten that matinee, 3D, and IMAX have different ticket prices. And he must've forgot that theaters are struggling economically. And he must've forgot that theaters raise and lower their prices, based on the health of the business. OR John is just acting a fool because he knows his mindless outrage gets him attention and makes money. The John Campea Show is just a low quality content factory. Lol

This was the first movie I saw in theaters since No Way Home. I always go to the AVX, room in Cineplex. Back then it was $16. This time it was $23. Honestly, Dune 2 was the only movie I'd planned on seeing in theatre this year. This pricing has cemented it. (I was actually surprised it wasn't in 3D, but I was glad. It was still the best theatre in the building, though. Leather seats, they actually clean the floors between showings, you pick your seats ahead of time. It's been my go-to for like 20yrs. But this was too big of a price jump.)

Cineplex in Australia (no idea if it's the same company) charge more for Disney distributed films, but to be fair, Disney started demanding a bigger cut of the take a few years ago, so I can't blame them

I'm from Canada and I agree that the experience from the one in my town is not so great. Also, movie tickets are 15$ tx incl which is in my opinion already expensive and one of the reason I go to cinema like only 2-3 times per year max. I saw Dune with a friend last weekend and was looking forward to go see it again with my daughter this weekend. But, this is the kind of move from Cineplex that makes me think twice if i'll go (will depend how much my duaghter would like to see it in cinema).

k hes actually a bit wrong about the seat and premium screen matter in canada, folks have started deviating away from the cheap seats so folks that actually go would rather pay the higher fee to enjoy the experience. the ones that are okay with the cheaper 16$ seats are a dying breed in canada, and if they do go, those cheaper seat folks will go to the smaller theaters that's around

The Landmark near me is great for the auditoriums with comfortable seats, and for prices compared to Cineplex... but they need to get better concession options. The one near me is such a bare bones concession with no hot food except hot dogs (which are usually sold out). If they stepped up their concession game, I would go there a lot more often. Cineplex offers a lot more food options, has VIP where you can get alcohol, etc... it's more expensive, but I often go to Cineplex just for the food. I need something good to eat during a movie. Popcorn and candy doesn't cut it for me most of the time.

I saw Dune 1 at the Cineplex IMAX theatre in Mississauga , Ontario and on opening day, they had dimmed their projection bulb where you could hardly make out what was on the screen. Their audio was trash as well. Dune 2 in the whole of the Greater Toronto Area is on 1 IMAX theatre. It’s dismal pickings in Canada’s largest population base.

@@Robbiev10please let me know if I’m mistaken and name them, as far as IMAX is concerned, I’m aware of only one, in Vaughn. It’s a 1.43:1 15/70 projector in 2K. The only other close to IMAX experience would be the Scotiabank Theatre in Toronto which has a 4K dual laser digital projector and is comparable to IMAX but not a true IMAX.

John forgot that ticket prices vary for matinee, 3D and IMAX. Theaters have always raised and lowered ticket prices, based on the economy and strength and business. John does these silly rants so that he can trick people into giving him attention and sending him money. The rant was disorganized, poorly supported and ridiculous. It shows how little effort he puts into the show.
