Though the concept of what constitutes "hurting a child" has changed a lot depending on societal norms, that's one thing it seems like almost every cutlure has agreed with in one form or another. e.g. Even in Ancient Rome, there was a law that said that a fetus was required to be removed from a dying woman's body. Of course, they also practiced societal pederastry as a norm. It's similar to how the US Constitution starts with "all men are created equal," then goes on to say slaves are 3/5ths of a person. Anyway, I'm with you. Child and animal abuse are definitely things that make me want the literal worst things imaginable to happen to oeople who engage in them.

I think that's perhaps one of the greatest aspects of this. These people have no legal defense since they know what they're doing is morally wrong AND they're talking to people with the intention of harming children, which removes the possibility of it being considered entrapment. They walk themselves into a corner willingly and when they end up in prison the closest thing to justice happens to them.

When you are a child (before the age of having children yourself) things like this seem so boogeyman-ish. So unrelateable it seems unreal. It's either so far removed from your world that it doesn't seem like a threat, or for those unfortunate it's so a part of your world it seems common. Most of the predators caught through TCAP got very light sentences because the information they gave in the interview wasn't admissible in court as evidence. So while the show made a big spectacle of having Hansen say "you aren't being charged with anything right now, we're just talking" that actually hurt the court cases against these crimes. Takedown is a direct response to what they learned from doing TCAP. They work with law enforcement during every step now to ensure maximum sentencing for these crimes.

Years ago, I was working in a child care facility and this woman with 6 kids( one in my class) asked me at the end of one day if I wanted to buy her daughter ( not for SA but because she was losing her apartment and couldn’t afford her children anymore). She was thinking she could sign her over like a car or something. I declined and tried to find resources to help her. I went to the director and voiced my concerns. The director said they’d take care of it. In the field you are supposed to be a mandatory reporter. She called the mom and told her I was concerned and she felt I’d call the police. The woman took her kids to another state, I was fired because I did call the police and I was honest about it. The center was shut down for not reporting and covering for the mother. Everytime I watch a video with Chris Hanson, I always wonder what happened to all her children.
