I’m PRAYING Madeline Miller makes a Persephone retelling! Or an Artemis retelling. I would PAY her!

OMG!! Miller's Persephone would be amazing!!

I actually saw Madeline Miller speak last week and it was so cool! She talked a lot about developing Circe as a self made woman in a world of gods who despise hard work. It was awesome and I got my copy signed 😍

I adored this book, read it and listened to it as an audiobook and they are both equally excellent. The narrator for the audio book could read me the dictionary

I too loved this audiobook, for all the reasons you said. Also, I would 100% read a Persephone story by this author. So mote it be.

I thought after The Song of Achilles that MM couldn’t make me that involved with a story again... but she did (ok, if it was a competition, I guess Achilles just wins, but only just!).

I thought Circe was a bit of a slow start, but I did get invested and I ended up absolutely loving it. I also highly recommend the audiobook. I'm reading Song of Achilles this summer and really looking forward to it. :)

I loved this book! And yes, the voice of the narrator of the audio was just so great. It makes strangely happy, when you here and see, that other people love the book you really loved 😂 Great video!

I am HERE for a Persephone retelling! I have read both of Millers booked and loved them both sooo much, I agree about the audiobooks as well. It's such a great experience, it feels as though you are sat in a camp in Ancient times being told the myths! 5* all the way!

Good timing for me, my thoughts are still fresh on this book. Funnily enough every time I saw ‘aiaia’ I had no clue so I read it as aaaaaaaah! I’m so glad you enjoyed this book! If I ever want to reread it I’ll have to check out the audiobook as I’ve heard great things about the narrator’s cool voice.

I'm so happy you loved this book! I love both of Miller's books, I'm sure she will continue on with the mythology work! I would love a Hades and Persephone story from, that would be so amazing. I'm pre-ordering whatever she comes out with in the future, either way.

Circe has been one of my favorite books of the year so far. I also recommend Black Leopard Red Wolf. Grim dark African fantasy, own voices, gay POC main character, weird mythological creatures, sex and violence and an incredible cast of characters. I’m sure you’d love it.

This was one of the first books I read this year and it's still a highlight of my reading year. I borrowed the ebook from the library, though, so now I know that I should eventually just add the audiobook to my collection.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVED Circe. I read it a year ago and still think about it like I just finished it. (Same with The Song of Achilles 😍) Agree with you all the way! Such good writing, and reading, the audio book was excellent. I love what you said about listening to audio books and the relationship to spoken stories and histories.

I really loved Circe. I actually read it before The Song of Achilles (which I've since read and adored) and agree that the audiobook is fantastic. The fact that it was told in the little vignettes made it all the more appealing - and accessible - and I loved how characters I didn't expect kept popping up. It would be amazing if Miller did write a Persephone story.

Circe was a 3 star for me. Which upsets me more than anyone because everyone else who’s read this adores it and it makes me feel like there’s a really good book in here that I’m just not seeing. The two main things that really bothered me were mainly that Circe didn’t have *any* positive relationships with any of the other female characters, not her mother, not her sisters, not her nymph maids, not Medea. She had a kind of friendship with Penelope at the end but that was tense for obvious reasons. My second issue is just more of a pet peeve, it felt like Circe became romantically involved with every man she met, the closest she had in this book to a platonic relationship was with Hermes and she didn’t really like him most of the time.
@ThoughtsOnTomes5 жыл бұрын
I think those things were more about the reality of greek mythology and those characters tbh. I still would have liked her to have lady friendships though.

Yes!!! I felt the same way!!! I really wanted to like it but that bugged me so so much. I also don't think being based on mythology explains that because she changed things quite a bit like weaving Dedalus and Cila into Circe's story, also she had such a big opportunity with the nimphs. I'll definetly check out other books by this author though, would die for a Persephone retelling lol.

I adored Circe when I read it last year, probably more than the Song of Achilles just because I knew what to expect from the story whereas I didn't know where Miller was going to go with the Circe myth. Also a Persephone story would be a dream!

its actually a chrome powder over black polish that buffed into the nail for this effect. I get it done at the salon so I'm unsure what brand they use.

I picked this book up today, mythology is my favourite and I'm glad we've got another one from MM. While Apollo is a massive fuckboy I would love to see an Apollo and Hyacinth story. Persephone would also be amazing but it'll be hard to beat Hadestown in my heart. Not Greek mythology but when will I get my Alexander and Hephaestion novel

I have been hearing so many great things about Madeline Miller! I really should read The Song of Achilles or Circe soon. I was just wondering; have you read The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker? I was really excited to read that but I ended up being so disappointed by it, since it turned out to be more about Achilles than about the women.
