Michael, when you showed the humorous example about "Spot," I was reminded of Dad fussing about some guy that walked his "barking cat" (i.e., small dog) around the neighborhood & allowing the dog to "poop" next to the mailbox. Dad knew that if he "marked" the yard boundary, most dogs wouldn't cross the line. Since he couldn't pee along the boundary, he collected a "specimen" in a spray bottle and used that to mark the boundary all along the streets (they lived in a corner house). The next time the guy walked his dog close to the house, the little dog immediately moved to the far side of the road and never pooped in Mom & Dad's yard again! ;) I enjoyed watching these 5 GD&T videos and was surprised at how much GD&T I've forgotten since taking a GD&T class at work back in the '80s (I've since retired). I never used GD&T in the drawings for my designs, but had to be able to interpret the aerospace drawings that we used when overhauling Naval aircraft, engines, & components.

I just completed watching all your GD&T lectures online and it's safe to say that I'm confident in reading drawings, now more than ever. Thanks so much for sharing! You're an awesome teacher and I love the fact that you use examples to truly help us gain a sense of where/why should we use any particular notation.

Over the years, I've studied numerous video compilations devoted to GD&T but always gravitate back to the TheBom_PE series. Anyone interested in learning GD&T from scratch should watch this video series in order and read Chapter 20 on GD&T in Shigley's Mechanical Engineering Design. I cannot think of a more thorough and comprehensive starting point.

RFS simply means that no matter the size of the hole or feature of size, there is No Bonus tolerance.

Cool as usual! Thanks for the explanation. This video is much better than the "dry" theory from reference books.

Hey Michael, I have just finished your entire gd&t series. I can not thank you enough for all the valuable information i have gained from you. I really wish there were more than just 5 videos. Just wanted to mention that i have been taking screenshots of your slides to write down notes and keep them for future reference. I wont be sharing them to honor your copyrights.

A very theoretical approach to explain GD&T. It would be so much easier to first define the geometric feature function and then define its specification. Also, one should talk about the specification uncertainty which arises in the application of GD&T with respect to the nature function.

OMG, you are back with GD&T. THANK YOU SO MUCH. Have been awaiting for the rest of the course. Will there be more lectures on GD&T? Very Thankful.

Yes, I'm still working on some others. This topic is relatively difficult for me to teach authoritatively because I am not as experienced with GD&T standards as I am with some other areas. I have to read and research a lot before feeling good about getting my lectures all (or mostly all) correct. Plus I only teach this course once a year! I am still working on it though! Thanks for your patience! Glad you are enjoying the videos!

@@TheBomPE Sir, I understand from your teaching and your lectures are very useful. I studied "Strength of Materials" again (after 15+ years) from your lectures and I wish I had these concepts 15 years back. Your students are very lucky. God bless.

At 10.13, I think the tolerance zone cylinder diameter listed in the table is wrong. Isn't supposed to be 0.2, 0.3 & 0.4 instead of 10.2, 10.3 & 10.4. Pls correctly me if I'm wrong. Thank you.

Mechanical parts should work. Mechanical parts should be easy to manufacture. There are two different solutions for a product specification: Based on manufacturing issues and the functional based GD&T. I don‘t understand, why the functional specification is still missing in mechanical engineering.
