I practiced at my dive shop open pool night last night and took a breath while purging. Whoops. Instructor on hand said I did great, though! Lol. We get to use the pool until certified on selected nights. It’s so fun!

That’s why we practice 😅 Were you alright, or was it a bit too much water? I’ve done it too, heck while filming some of these shots I did it once and had to edit that out because I started coughing into my regulator like crazy 🤣 Getting overly distracted and task loaded (like trying to film a video) can be a big mistake 🤦♂️. I was very shallow so worse case I would’ve been fine, but definitely something to keep in mind for myself now too. I’m excited you’re getting certified!

You got it done, you are fine, breathing so no prob. Did this no prob in a pool but my buddy kicked my regulator on a trip and I did the second method but got some water in my lungs. Cough or two or three, started breathing normally and lets keep going. As long as you are fine and not panicking its a goodee

Crap. I did it, again. …why I am rewatching this. I think it was nerves. I practiced until I was sure, but I need to learn to cough into the regulator.

I believe in you! Think of the word “two” for that one, then the purge button is just hitting the button so it’s not too bad 👍

👍😎🤿! Great information to share with! I think almost all dive agencies are close to the same thing! But it is startling when it happens because you just don’t expect it🤣yeah I had mine knocked out a few times and even a fin got tangled in my second stage hose and pulled out! Sometimes others aren’t quite aware of others 😁

It’s so true that people don’t realize who is around them sometimes haha. In a recent OW class one student swam with his hands and when they shouldn’t and hit someone’s reg hose, pulling it from their mouths. 😅

Great demo! Have you done this before 😂

Haha you know, once or twice

You didn’t mention putting your tongue up to the roof of your mouth before you purge. At least with my regulator, some water would shoot back to my throat making me gag if I didn’t block it with my tongue.

That’s interesting, I’ve never heard of that happening when you purge or had it happen with the few regs I’ve owned, but great tip, thank you for sharing!! I’m learning too!

@@CircleHScuba do you ever promote dive trips? I don’t have any friends on this side of the world who dive. I’m going back to Hawaii next weekend for an awesome week of diving the big island (I’ve always loved manta rays) but as usual I’ll be solo.

That sounds like an awesome trip! I am actually hoping to host some dive trips in the future, possibly in 2024. Right now, I typically book my own trips through the shop I instruct at, or through another shop or two I know in different parts of the US where I’ve become friends with the owners. If I can get enough interest, I’d love to set up a Circle H Scuba dive trip somewhere!

Any specific places you’d like to go? I’ll be working on it over the last part of this year and see what’s possible!
