Circulatory system of Amphioxus
The blood vascular system is peculiar in having no heart, and there is no respiratory pigment, the blood being colorless and devoid of corpuscles. Lying in the sub-endostylar coelom, below the pharynx, is a contractile ventral aorta which pumps blood forward by peristaltic contraction.
