When the Burke & Walsh Circus is bought by a new owner, 'Big Tim' Champion (Robert Lowery), he decides that having Corky (Micky Dolenz) around will be too much of a financial burden. First aired September 23, 1956.

For all KZbin's political faux pas, episodes like this one make it a worthwhile library of pieces of history which one might hear or read about but not experience. Thank you for posting!

I loved this show as a child and I have a couple of the old Whitman Circus Boy books. Yes, this is cheesy and dated. But, it's still decent entertainment and fun.

I watched it as a kid, too, and am surprised at how well it still holds up. Wish as many folks could still tell the difference between good guys and bad guys, right and wrong, and realize that sometimes returning the violence is the only way, even if as a last resort, to subdue a bully.

Good grief. One of my earliest memories of watching TV back in the late, late-'50 and early-'60s. It would have been in reruns/syndication by the time I saw it though. Add My Little Margie with Gale Storm and Our Miss Brooks with Eve Arden. I'd catch reruns in the early morning hours before my parents and baby brother (he's now 64) were awake. Bowl of cereal on my lap I'd watch TV. The local CBS affiliate even had the Farm Report before the day's regular programming kicked-in.

Yeah, that’s a 1950’s show all right, some schmoe shows up and without half an inkling starts telling a little kid about life, doesn’t even sound like he’s one note genuine whatsoever and the kid is just suppose to accept it as the facts of life. Little wonder this attitude makes each and every one of us totally un-trusting and looking for bull and nonsense everywhere. We were all trained to smell the routine of random nonsense.

This show totally creeps me out. I have always hated the circus and carnival culture. It's also strangely unnerving because it's one of those cheep, poorly produced, poorly acted 50s TV shows made for kids. Kind of the 50s version of The Banana Splits. Crummy shows produced for kids by adults who think kids are too dumb to know the difference.
@bobbyhamblen23383 жыл бұрын

@howardkerr81743 жыл бұрын
I don't think this was produced for children as much as it was just " plain, old fashioned entertainment " for the whole family. John Blackstone sounds like he has never seen a tv show from the early 50s. If anything, this looks like a typical " period " western with the added twist of being set with a circus. If you go to Wikipedia, you find that this show originally aired in prime time, just like other similar shows: Lassie, and Rin, Tin, Tin. Sure, it eventually wound up on saturday morning along with other " kid's shows ", but it didn't start out as a cheap production that was supposed to appeal (only?) to children. BTW, the producer for this series would go on to produce other " CRUMMY " shows like The Naked City, Route 66, and Hawaii 5-0.
