A group of gang members were invited to a court room in Northampton last week and given the choice between support and enforcement.
The Community Initiative to Reduce Violence (CIRV) is one of the most successful gang intervention programmes in the world and has seen huge reductions in violence in Cincinnati, Boston and Glasgow.
Its launch in Northamptonshire is the first time it has been to England.
The multi-agency project is designed to reduce gang violence, not necessarily by locking gang members up, but by working with them to provide an informed choice between the consequences of the life they are choosing or a life free from crime and violence.
The support the program offers is unique, bespoke and effective, utilising the very best interventions including mentors, ex-gang members, employers and education providers to enable meaningful and long-lasting change.
