A trunk port should be the port connected to a multi-layer switch for inter-vlan communications; there is no need for trunk port between L2 switches since these switches can't perform inter-vlan communications, i.e. only traffic from the SAME vlan can travel on the port.

If you have VLAN spanning over multiple switches you need a trunk.
