I passed the exam (CAT) yesterday. Here’s my recommendation: 1. Yes, understand all the concepts and all the definitions/terms. Know the CISSP language. 2. Yes, the composition of the questions is challenging. To handle it you need to concentrate a lot and for all, maintain strong focus. Therefore I suggest you to take the exam right in the morning with a fresh head. No matter how difficult the question may seem at first, if you understand the concepts and terms (point 1.) and you understand the question, you’re most possibly able to give the right answer. Have a good breakfast before and use ear plugs during exam as this will also help you to concentrate and maintain focus. 3. I studied for around 10 days, whereas 3 days before the exam I studied full time (mostly questions from boson). I also used ISC2 Flashcards. 4. Don’t let the complexity of the questions pull you down. Whenever you feel losing concentration and focus, take a breath and restart with understanding the question. 5. You don’t need 100% correct. So don’t waste too much time on questions you simply can’t answer. Every 4th question answer can be wrong and you still pass. Make the best guess an move on! 6. Watch the time. You should calculate no more than 1.5 min per question. I had 30 min left. 7. I placed a lot of answers by determining and excluding wrong answers. 8. Place the exam date, as this will strengthen your commitment to start learning with focus and efficiency. 9. Don’t use too many sources of learning material In my opinion, to be able to maintain concentration and focus to answer the questions in a timely manner, was the biggest challenge in the exam. Hope this was helpful, good luck!

@@Dy13yDx I did similar. I have been a security engineer for almost 2 decades, pretty much since I left high school. You learn stuff. That's why CISSP is not an entry level exam (not saying anything about Ricardo here).

Exactly, this is what I want to emphasize: those who claim to pass the CISSP with only a few days of preparation likely have a significant amount of experience in the field. Some will tell you about it, while others won't. It's akin to a clickbait quote, perhaps to showcase themselves as geniuses or something, but the reality is there's more to their success than meets the eye. For those preparing for the exam, don't let this kind of comment stop or discourage you. (I didn't mean this towards you specifically; no offense intended)@@n2rj

I had my exam today. My experience was exactly this one. 2 easy questions then 3 hard questions every single time. The sad part is that I didn't know if the easy questions were answered right or not. End with just 2 domains above, 3 near and 3 below. Ran out of time around question 130 and had to rush the last 20 questions.

My spouse recently passed the test after taking a 1 week boot camp. But he didn't take the exam right afterwards. He knew the exam was overwhelming. After 6 weeks, he cancelled the exam date with a penalty. And finally scrambled at month 3 to take it and passed. The KEY takeaway out of the countless material he read from many sources is to read the giant iSC2 book front to back with doing 1-2 domain test every day (7 days a week). One of the designers of the test co-wrote the book. So reading the book gives you INSIGHT to how they think of questions. The common refrain of this test they say is "to think like a CEO." The scenarios presented are trying to emulate real world face punch and how your WISDOM is based on the material you studied. And don't feel bad while doing the exam and saying to yourself, "I failed" and then finding out you passed. Everyone feels this way during the test. The level of uncertainty is high. But the book is key! I can give you the boot camp he took as well if you're interested. His company paid for it, btw.

I feel you, I took the test two days ago and I failed. I got questions that never covered in their official material 😅 don’t know if that was beta question. I think their mentality in creating this exam is to let few people pass also the uncovered parts you should know it by experience. This is nonsense you gotta mention it at least briefly in the material we’re not having a universal work experience. All the best in your next attempt, have a look at test banks a got lots of questions from there.

Hi, I found this by accident but I just passed the CISSP recently and Im in the endorsement process now. I see its 8 months later than when you posted this. First, every candidate should watch this video. Second, I feel for you. I have a lot of years in IT and this was a hard test. Your description is correct on the CAT. I dont know if you are continuing to study or test again but if I may offer advice. You need to do the practice questions OVER AND OVER AND OVER. Boson was GREAT but ESPECIALLY THE OPT from Wiley. The CISSP is a reading comprehension test. Its not technical. Your job is to advise management about a particular Info Sec item. Every question should be viewed as a task that you must accomplish. And if you think about it, its not a waste. You are learning for a reason. To be a better Security person! Thats really the point of studying. The CISSP is just the first step into a new area. I wish you well

Hopefully you ended up passing. I passed yesterday at 100 questions. Its a hard test. Understanding real world scenarios is key. I think you need to have a lot of experience. Also Boson has the most realistic questions compared to the test. Also there are a lot of questions that require broad non security knowledge on top of all the core material. In comparison to the CCIE the questions are not long.

I was in the same boat. You speak the truth. Took the test in 2019, Failed, and walked away since. I have the new book, tried to read it again, cant, again it's on hold. I have been in IT since 2011 and hold 3 certs. That CAT Exam is no joke. Think like a manager your not fixing anything or touching anything but the books don't talk like that. It is sad. Test me on the knowledge base pure and simple and I can answer. The hard worded questions don't prove you failed because you don't know the material. Simply not true. The fact that you can't go back and move past a question is another challenge. Personally, work experience outweighs any cert. I have done interviews with potential candidates that have these high-end certs but can't solve a simple solution to save their life. I feel your pain. Don't give up. You didn't fail you just didn't pass the exam FOR NOW. You will fail if you walked away and give up getting it. You can do it. You gotta find the right training material that fits your learning style. Sadly I wish the exam was the same. Good Luck! Thanks for sharing your honesty your strong dude!

I just the exam today and failed at 175 with 24 seconds left on the clock . I almost ran out of time. I purchased the peace of mind so I have one more crack on it before Feb 15, 2024. I agree with you questions are way too long that you use focus . I also feel I missed some obvious answers, because I was trying too much to think like a manager.

You do understand that 50 of the questions are beta questions. So of the 175, 50 do not count and may not be covered in the material. Pretty sure if you didn't prepare for that if would mess with you head and drop your confidence. You are already stressed, then u see this random out of no where question. Do some recon on cissp cat and how it works. Learn the rules and beat it.

That's exactly correct. The professors who design the exam say "Think like a CEO". Read extra carefully and use process of elimination. First Day, I did practice questions with my friend (who passed). I didn't pick up anybook...only relying of my enthusiast knowledge of all things computers, as a consumer. I surprisingly got almost 80% (70% is pass). Now these questions try to emulate the test, so their accuracy of reality is questioned.\ But just using common sense, I did well enough.....Unfortunately, a lot of engineers/IT have NO common sense. 😂. And that's what the test is trying to figure out from you.... Are you a soldier ant or the captain that can direct and divert resources as the situation calls for....

Sounds like a reading comprehension issue. You want the test to be easy so you can get certified. Trying to fail you? What about if you own the fact that you didn't understand the questions? Maybe a language or ESL class before taking the exam again?
