Finally a video about the Citadel Mall! My children go to homeschool coop classes not far from here starting 2017 or 2018-2024. I come to this mall to kill time. I have seen so many stores come and go through the years. That Champs is now closed and empty.

I used to go there with my grandmother back in the 90s.

I had memories in both the Citidel and Northwoods malls. I used to love that plants and umbrella tables in the food court back in the last 90s. I know I'm kinda new here on this channel, but I really like what you do here. Pretty awesome that you're local and love the detailed history you're giving here. I really hope Northwoods and citadel malls don't shut down anytime soon. I have lots of memories from a time before smartphones and internet became what I is today. I'm really sad about the Red lobster.

I'm a Charleston local. Born and raised. I haven't been inside this mall in over 30 years. I've heard that it was dying. I remember visiting this place when it first opened when I was 15. I'd just gotten my driver's license. During the 80s, I would frequently come here. It was booming and bustling. It's days now, are obviously numbered. Very sad to see. Lots of memories there from my youth.

I was at the mall last week and the food court was packed to capacity. All tables were occupied. I didn’t realize that all of the food court spaces are 100% leased with a new Mexican restaurant coming soon in the former Italian food space.

When this mall first opened in about 1985 or so, it was THE mall in Charleston, sad to see how it is now. I still visit when-ever I am back home on vacation & yea like others have said the food court by Target is usually full of people despite the lack of stores inside...

This might be America’s most lopsided solid anchor (plus an anchor space used as a tv show production space) versus weak inline tenant mall. The ratio is unlike any other mall I have seen in person or on video. For people outside of Charleston, I don’t think they can understand how dead and alive this mall is at the same time. It also has almost no style minus the geometric skylights.

The remodeling of just really killed the design. They used to have fountains in Citadel Mall.

Awesome video! Even though Sears never relocated from their original 1981 space they did undertake a significant expansion and interior remodel in the 1990’s. Look at the exterior on the side with the Gemstone’s signage. To the left about 1/2 down you’ll notice that the brick slightly changes color. This is the addition. It added a fairly significant amount of square footage. 😊

Stay tuned for upcoming news about Citadel Mall in probably mid-fall 2024 as plans begin to be revealed when the master plan moves through the City of Charleston design and permitting process. Expect some pretty significant news that is long overdue! 👍🏻

There’s literally no stores. I like to use it for walking. I go to the food court and Target a lot though.
