I lived across the highway from Tiehack/Buttermilk back in the late seventies and once caught a ride on a Citation from Aspen to Dallas/Fort Worth and back . This brought back such a great memory. I never made it past my private. Thanks for your post.

Thanks for watching! I've been flying professionally for over 20 years now and haven't lost sight of what an amazing experience I get to have on each flight.

Great to ride along, walk through the SID with you and listen to two cockpit crew management.

Interesting that the TO flow does not include the parking brake. The N560AR and N91GK accidents probably were caused by a parking brake application as well as a 2015 Australian accident. Does the parking brake show up on the annunciator panel which you check on that TO check. Otherwise it would seem to be needed in that flow as it is not part of the "no takeoff" system.

Hi James, great questions. I have not had time to read many of the details regarding the recent Excel crash, but I've heard a lot of chatter related to the possibility of them taking off with the parking brake applied. To answer your question, neither the 500-series Citations nor 560XL type have any mention of the parking brake as part of before takeoff or lineup checklist. That's why the majority of Citation operators don't include it in their company checklist or flows. With regard to a No Takeoff annunciator, the 500-series Citations simply are not equipped with one. The thing to remember is that the 500-series lineage stretches all the way back to the 1970s, so some of the systems are considered slightly primitive by new jet standards. When it comes to the Excel, there is a No Takeoff annunciator, but it is only tied to flap position, horizontal stab position, pitch trim setting, and speed brake position on non-European registered aircraft. The parking brake setting is tied to this annunciator on European registered Excels. I wouldn't be surprised if an airworthiness directive came out as a result of this crash, requiring US-based Excels to be wired the same as European Excels.

Thank you sir! can you explain more of the systems in the xls?

Unfortunately I rarely fly the XLS right now, but that will probably change in the not too distant future. I'll see what I can do. Thanks for watching!
