This is why if I went to Oshkosh I'd drive because its a chaotic hell in the air, and flying a C-172SP from MD with a ground speed of only maybe 130 mph might take awhile to get there, and I'm still a student pilot!
@jameshennighan8193

ATC - OSHKOSH Whilst the ATC would seem to be impressive, there is a need to be more measured in heaping praise on such operations. At a superficial level, speed in getting aircraft away from the airfield is as exciting as it is technically challenging, but it is based upon speed of operation at a very congested ground location.. With speed comes the potential for a mistake or a misunderstanding which can lead to a mistake. The ease with which departures are converted from IFR to VFR, in a rush to get away, being a potential example for creating such a mistake. One of the major issues in the speedy handling of aircraft, be they arriving, departing, or merely positioning themselves on the ground, is the abbreviation or curtailment of aircraft call-signs in an endeavour to maintain that speedy handling. Although this sounds slick and is something we are increasingly becoming used to, it is not proper and effective ATC.... Just because things are going smoothly does not mean things cannot go wrong. This is about far more than being impressed with operations. Oshkosh is an accident waiting to happen, and one of possible major proportions when it occurs. It is not just a matter of if this will happen, but when. As more people take to the air, (both as a follow-up to the end of the Lock-down madness, and with the Summer 'Flying Season' now under way), the skies have seldom been busier. GA is facing a considerable number of challenges at the moment, with a number of question marks hanging over so many things, including both general flying ability, and the training of pilots. A random analysis of GA accidents demonstrates this in so many ways, where there are far too many, running the full gamut from basic mistakes, to simple inability and extending to downright foolishness and stupidity It would be a pity if the freedom of the skies, events such as Oshkosh.......as well as other airshows, were to become more restricted, or even stopped, as a consequence of increasing regulation and control by the FAA / NTSB, but there is almost an inevitability of this being not too far down the runway. The organisers of OSHKOSH have the solution in their own hands. They should be looking at ATC operations at the event, with a view to refining it. Being prepared to make changes where necessary is a part of that process. They have to start doing this before it is too late.. James Hennighan Yorkshire, England
