This is one of the features I’m looking forward to most. I hate that ships just magically stay in position while in atmosphere at the moment.

I means we have plane today that can stay stationary in the air in the military like Harrier or F35, they just need their engine to be turning on to have a opposition to the gravity, so there is nothing who break the physics in having ship being able to stay stationary in the atmosphere, as long as they keep their thruster on and consume fuel. What break the physics for me is having ship with so many vertical thruster to stale when they shouldn't honestly, just activate the vertical thruster at low speed and you compensate the gravity. For big ship the thruster could not be strong enough but for fighter there is no reason.

That's what I'm really looking forward to! Star systems are great but atmospheric flight is whole another story. Hope we get balloons too!

what about ships like the cutter? They don't have any aerodynamic surfaces. Do they just use their thrusters to move in the atmosphere?

yes they will have a lot worse of a time in decoupled mode. This would be true for most of the ships made for space without much thought for atmosphere. Cutter, Aurora, Constellations, plenty of examples.

I'd guess they will be very poor in atmosphere. Key may be to enter atmo close to landing site and let the thrusters lower you down.

@@CitizenFrost I think much like sea ships that at some scale it's just made for space only. What's the point of wasting tons of fuel for thrusting to brake. Just let them fly down with smaller ships. I guess that's how it's done. Also cool to see big ass ships in the sky above

i think usually those ships have vtol mode, the redeemer and reclaimer are a good example

Chris is going for the 'easy to pick up, but hard to master' model, that should keep most of us happy.

@@CitizenFrost Anyone who has played any flight game should be familiar with this style. The mechanics necessary to dominate space combat are actually harder to adjust to, because it can turn into jousting and circle strafing a lot easier. Atmospheric flight allows for a normal rate battle in combat. Also lends itself to picking your fights based on where your at, as some ships are obviously more aerodynamic than others.

This? The new one we saw?? Tf are u talking about bud?? This is an amazing flight model. I'm sad that so many people forgot this even existed. Nobody mentions this when talking about all the updates cig failed to implement from citcon this year.
