I currently use my Aventure for 100% of my transportation needs- I am very pleased with the ranged I have been getting. I've own a Pace 500 also that I had before the Aventure, and now when I ride that I feel like the battery just drains very quickly. When I commute to work on my Aventure I use PAS 5 for a 5 mile ride, and when I arrive to work I'm usually at 80-83%. I only pedal and at max speed when commuting to work (I work thirds so there's almost no other bikes or pedestrians to worry about) and it's nice not having to lug my charger back and forth to work every night like I did with my Pace 500. Usually my Pace 500 was at 45-50% with the same commute. When I use my Aventure for errands I haul an Aosom Elite II cargo trailer (35lbs empty) I usually use PAS 2 when it's empty and if I have a load I bump up to 3 for some extra help and I can get 30 miles out of it and have around 5% when I get home. If I go out riding just for fun, I unusually use PAS 1 with moderate throttle use for hills and that obviously extends my range tremendously. Last weekend I rode 15 miles in PAS 1 and throttle moderately for hills and when I reached my destination I had 96% left. I then continued onwards for 25 miles (12.5 out and back) with PAS 0 and PAS 1 about 3 or 4 times for some road crossings. Then rode home in PAS 3 and 4 ( I was TIRED haha) and got home with about 35% left. So that trip I got about 30 miles with 35% remaining. I would like to do a test of where I ride in PAS 1 w/ moderate throttle until it's dead but I feel like I would die before the bike haha.

I think your "throttle only" test is very accurate. We have two of these (his and hers) and yesterday we went on a 32 mile out and back on a paved bike path in the sierras where very little terrain is flat, when I finished I had 22 percent left. That said we have been riding mountain & street bikes since the early eighties and don't mind spinning along. Oh, nearly all of the ridding was done in level 2. Personally we are thrilled with these bikes, so fun to ride. It is so nice to look around and enjoy the scenery instead of looking down at your front wheel and panting while going up the steeper inclines. The 12 to 15 MPH average while putting in fair peddling amount is enough to keep you in a cooler breeze also.

Based on your very helpful reviews I finally settled on the Aventon Aventure step through and it was delivered a couple of days ago. Ihad been riding a big, heavy, 3 speed beach cruiser (Firmstrong Bruiser) for the past few years. Took my new, fully charged, Aventure for a 20 mi, round trip, ride down the beach cycle path. I tried to keep the effor, on my part, about the same as when I was riding my beach cruiser except for a few brief throttle uses on up grades and when passing other cyclists. I used PAS 2 and occasionally 3 when riding into the brisk sea breeze. I got back that energy okn the downwind loops on the bike path. I weigh 200 pounds. When I got home the batter was reading 88 %. That rose to 89% after the battery rested for a few minutes. My average speed was 11 mph I do wonder how accurate the percentage numbers are since, because the percentate rose slightly after the battery rested, they seem to use battery voltage as a way to measure state of charge. These batteries have a very flat discharge curve so those measurements, especially at the high end of state of charge, are very tiny differences in voltage.

I bought the s/m size for the Aventure and I’m 6’1”. The size is just fine for my height even if I was much taller. If you closely at the specs and the pics, the frame size for the s/m and m/l are virtually identical. The only difference is the minimum seat height and that is very close. I wanted a bike that could be adjusted not only for me but a smaller rider. I highly recommend the s/m for everyone.

Good Review. Another variable I don't think you mentioned is using the same track or same loop with the same stop and starting and braking due to stop signs, stop lights, traffic and pedestrians that force you to brake. I wish I could give you a piece of good data but I can't so here is a piece of not so good data. I have a Juiced Rip Current S with I think 52V and 19amps and I ride it with 15 lbs of tire pressure. I have it at another location where I left it in May of this year. Manual said store battery for extended periods at 50% charge. The day I left I think it was at 100%, and I ran it at full throttle, no pedaling for about 12 miles? I really don't remember the exact number but 12 miles sounds about right, maybe it was 15 ?? when it said 50% remaining or only half the bars showing. Does one get the same mileage from the first half as the second half of the battery?...it looked like you did on this one. The Juiced bike is heavy but has the biggest battery when compared to the ones you have tested. But again, all my data is from my memory, not precise and thus unreliable but generally in the ball park of the other bikes you have tested. If I ever do a 100% to empty test, full throttle, I'll share my precise data with you. I think Juiced makes some optimistic claim of 70 to 100 miles of range on this bike with this battery with pedal assist on lowest level.

In this video he says it’s a “throttle-only” range test. He tries not to pedal throughout the range test. No peddling, no gear changing needed. The throttle on Aventon bikes, as is supposed to be on any e-bike operating as a “legal” Class 2 e-bike, is limited (capped) at 20 mph. Many brands aren’t throttle capped, regardless of claiming to be able to operate in a Class 2 compliant mode. Basically, Class 1 is pedal assisted but No Throttle available and with a 20 mph maximum. Class 2 adds throttle-only assist mode (and allows pedal assist), but is also limited to the 20 mph maximum. A class 2 e-bike can be a 20 mph, throttle-only scooter (at PAS 0)! A class 3 e-bike can go 28 mph (though some don’t seem to cap there). Most definitions of Class 3 call this a pedal-assist bike classification, so technically in Class 3, the throttle can only be activated in PAS modes. These legal definitions aren’t “universal” it seems, and can vary by jurisdiction, so be wary. By the way, to be more clear you comply with Class 1, run an Aventon bike in Class 2 setting, and unplug the throttle cable. Usually just not using the throttle on Class 1 trails is sufficient compliance - intent. Legal compliance can be confusing. But it’s not often strictly enforced… often seemingly ignored… until it’s not!

Question: I just built a Giant Talon E-Mountain bike. When I am going over 15mph my pedaling can't keep up with the motor. This is because it is turning a smaller gear up front. (36 Tooth). Yet you mention that the Aventon will get to 20pmh with throttle but pedal assist will take it up to 28mph. It doesn't look like it turns that large of a chain ring up front to be able to have your pedaling keep up with the motor. What am I missing that your pedal assist can take you faster than the motor? Thanks.

You seem bummed it only travels at 20mph on throttle. 2 honest questions. Why do you think you should be able to go faster. And 2, what do you think would be a reasonable top speed for a bicycle? I personally think 30 would be reasonable as it would be fast enough to keep up with traffic on most urbinish areas
@mrc14363 жыл бұрын
Federal law and most states laws limit throttle speed to 20 mph. Anything more with the throttle requires the vehicle to be registered as a motor vehicle and not be a legal bicycle. That means registration, inspections, no using bike lanes and all the safety devices on a motorcycle like blinkers and brake lights

Please note, the others don't do this. Rad, Himiway and so on. They throttle full speed, so if you are going 4 PAS up a steep hill, you can throttle the last bit w/o going to PAS 5. Bad feature by Aventon

I agree with you. The max speed on full throttle is NOT a problem for me, & I live in LA/the valley. Being able to go faster (with PAS 5), is a nice option, but...it's not the reason I enjoy the bike so much. Going 17-20 MPH using PAS 3, is a nice cadence for me.

i guess it depends what things are important to you. Cyrusher 650 has a strong motor, comfy seat, feels like a big bike, has color options, and shifting is crisp. Aventon has display with bluetooth, different frame sizes and colors, strong acceleration and power, hydraulic brakes, metal fenders, Himiway has big battery, good speed and power, cheapest price, rack included, Rad is the most upgradeable, and well known. and their are a million other options out there :)

Do you think the ebikeling kit you did on the rad rover will work on this bike?
@CitizenCycle9253 жыл бұрын
The kit should work on just about any bike with the correct dropout width on the front wheel. You'll need another battery to power the front though, unless you original battery. Sure how that would be I would hate to ruin the wiring on the Aventon.
@johnm5143 жыл бұрын
I ordered a kit off Amazon that uses a separate controller and battery. I planned on keeping it 2 separate systems like you did on the rad rover build. The spacing on the forks fit the wheel/motor I got sent but there are groves on the fork that allow for the oem washer and nut to sit in. The new washer/nut for the hub motor don’t fit into that groove because the bolts are slightly wider than the oem wheel. Hard to explain… if you still have the aventure can to take a quick look and compare to your rad. Hard to find any info cause the aventure is such a new bike and no one wants to mess around with them… I want to turn it into a hill climbing beast lol.

Could you do a range test on your Biktrix? I have heard that due to always being able to be optimized gearing wise, mid drives are supposed to be more efficient than hub drives. It would be interesting to see in practice with a throttle only test what you get. I know that makes it a little tricky because you have to pedal to shift, but I don't think that would make enough of a difference that it would be relevant.

@mrc14363 жыл бұрын
That battery is absolutely where it should be, throttle only at 20 mph cuts the normal range in peddle assist level 2 at about 16 mph in half It’s just how ebikes work. He could have extended his range a few miles on level ground and putting a bit more air in the tires (25 to 26 psi cold)

@@mrc1436 i agree with what you're saying about the battery, but fat tires, call your local mountain bike shop those guys have been using these tires for at least a decade. You don't want to go above 15 or 16 lb ever. With fat tires 26×4 the difference between 15 lb and 20 to 25lb is the difference between a couple Flats a year and a couple years in between Flats. I'm not an expert with e-bikes by any means, but I know about the tires. I just got my first fat tire flat. And I've been riding fat tire bikes on all different types of terrain since 2017 at least 2500 miles probably more. But don't take my word for it. The recommended tire pressure on the Aventon the Himiway and the Rad tires are all 30lbs max. It maybe that some older tires ran at 20 to 25 lbs max.
