There are no rules for romance because what works will vary for different types. So it wouldn't be surprising at all if the traveler decided to settle down in this world. For the characters with short lifespans, Aether would only need to be there for a hundred years which is equivalent to a summer fling for them. Both of them are at least 500 years old (at the bare minimum), if not much older than that.
