What I love is how a French automotive manufacturer were able to commission a TranFormers-based ad campaign, where you can clearly see everything that's happening and the eyes can understand it... several years before Hollywood tried it and produced the movie equivalent of a blackened, smoking carcass for Sunday lunch.

@@KrillLiberator I get what u said! Because there are so much separate mechanical parts of a transformers body in the movie design, when they fight u can hardly tell what's going on. Michael Bay made an error in some of the transformer design choices. Transformers 1 was the best one, part 2 was good. Part 3 had some cool scenes but no real character development. Part 4 I didn't care much for the story and part 5 was bad.

My buddy worked on this and even though the ad was for UK, it was actually made in Vancouver Canada. Little clue was the round tower in the background....a famous Vancouver building which is used til this day a rotating restaurant. Thanks for sharing this video!

Ah, memories. I actually had it in my mind there was some link between this ad and the Transformers movie, but looking at it again all these years later I can see that's probably not the case. If only because, as Andrew Givens said in a comment a year back, the transformation is much clearer than in the films and the resultant robot retains a lot of the car's features. It's much more like the appearance of the old-style, pre-Michael Bay Transformers, such as the old cartoon show, where the car parts, panels, etc, remain clear even in robot form. Doesn't stop me wondering what would happen to anyone who happened to be sitting in that car when it did that, though... 😱

my Autodesk Maya teacher worked for this ad and he showed us the pipeline. All of this is fully made in 3d with old hard to control software. Now you're able to achieve absolute photorealism in less time and yet directors refuse to invest time and effort in order to get the bag quicker at the expenses of exploiting 3d workers like cash cows instead of the artisan level they were regarded with 20 years ago.
