It's the most satisfying feeling when that splined shaft just goes 'schlonk!and goes in that final inch or two!I find when it's up in position and holding box with your right hand,I have a big blade screwdriver in the gap slightly moving the flywheel while shaking the box to death.

Easiest way to get a BE4 gearbox in for me is to have car raised just enough for gearbox and jack to go underneath and use a hoist from above. There are two lifting eyes (one might not be a lifting eye but does the job). Use the one nearest to the bulkhead to lift it at almost flywheel height (this helps clear the diff housing from subframe and bulkhead). Support gearbox on jack and shift hoist to eye nearest front of car. Lift with hoist to flywheel height and gearbox will twist to proper orientation. Things are made easier if you remove the (now legacy) speedometer drive housing before removing and refitting the box. Concentrate on the gearbox bolts with the dowels, which should be the one below the starter motor and the uppermost and most tricky to get at, when tightening.

Good videos I enjoyed watching thanks, they made me realise I really don't have the patience to do this job, I'm a home mechanic & tear my hair out at the first problem seized bolt, also I know your pain working on Peugeot & Citroen's they are crap, you made it look easy compared to my previous attempts, I got to change a rusted fuel tank strap on A Citroen C5 in the next few weeks & even that small job I aunt looking forward to as there's a cover down the one side & all the bolts are rusted on, plus I'll have to work from the floor on axle stands oh why do I keep buying these French bangers!!!

I wish that I could have been there Leon to give you a couple of hands when you were wrestling that gearbox back in. I can remember trying to get an automatic transmission splines to line up and it literally took me an hour to get that thing back in there :) But after you got it bolted in, the rest of the install looked fairly painless. If you film the little issue on the belt side, I'll be looking forward to the video of what you find. Don't work too hard and have a great weekend!

Good job! I have had 3 Picasso's now 2 of them petrol a 1.8 and a 1.6 identical engine to that, both had issues with auxiliary belt tensioner pulley that sounded identical to that noise, the 1.8 had the exact same tappet noise as well, dam Citroens! :)
