I was a SoCal high school senior in 1984 with a 67 DS21 and can attest to their comfort. The ride was fabulous and the comfort of the back seat was unparalleled. Talk about one that got away.

This car is just a legend and I'm proud that it is a French car. Regarding the pronounciation of Citroën : "tro" like in "tropical" and "ën" like in "hence" without the h of course.

Very nice addition to your collection Ross, those cars were very avant-garde when they were produced and seeing one in this mint condition is quite remarkable. One note if I may... the maker is pronounced Citro-hen ;)

Congratulations on a very interesting car. When you talked about the light following the steering, you forgot to mention that the light also follows in height when you load the car or when it springs. I had a DS 23 Pallas in the 80's and have many nice memories off the car. In the 80's I was not that old and the police were often challenged at almost 200 km / h. It happened that people came up and said that the engine had a nice ride, almost as it sang. The car has a very long durability on the mechanical. It is easy to work with if you have not learned other cars first. Have a nice day / from Sweden and Lasse L

The pedal to the left is the parking brake that, with a flick of a small lever, can act as an emergency brake. The height adjustment was introduced in 1955 after the first 40 (not absolutely sure about the number) cars were produced. Citroën produced 1,3 million ID/DS cars between 1955-75.

Yes, please give this Goddess the respect it deserves and use the proper name. I had a new red '72 and I LOVED it. Wish I still had it. I enjoyed your review and the trip down memory lane, but the way you mispronounced the name grated on my sensitive ears. Sit-row-en, not Sit-try-on. No need to re-film everything, but if you could over-dub the correct pronunciation, it would make me, at least, if not anyone else, feel better. Otherwise, a nice presentation of a lovely, lovely car that I wish I still had.

My favorite car ever. I had the exact same car about 20 years ago and regret giving it up every time I see one. You can buy a conversion for the horn and put in an air horn, if you can find one. Also, as a back up, there should be a button on the battery cable which you can use to start the car if there is a problem with the gear lever starter. And as a back up for that, you can remove the rubber badge on the front bumper, insert the jack into the hole and hand crank the car to start it. Have you explored the anti-theft system in it yet? It can be tricky. By far the most comfortable car I have ever driven. Your a lucky man.

You should have two horns; one for town and a louder one for road use. Just pull the stick further to engage the road mode. They're easy to access once you lift out the spare wheel, so if you only have one mode you can easily fix it. My DS 21 Pallas (1971) has three horns, the road mode uses all three!

A great car and a great video. A well maintained DS is very reliable. Ross, when you talk of the auto version, do you mean the Citromatic hydraulic gear change. You select the gears and feather the throttle and the car hydraulically operates the clutch. These are the most sort after DSs. Total classic car Nirvana. Late DS23s were available with a slush box 3 speed Borg Warner automatic. No collector would want one of those.. And.. The pronunciation is C I T R OO EN.. please.. Not Citreon.. Enjoy one of life's true game changing cars. I have owned 7 IDs & DSs since my first Aussie assembled 1962 ID19 bought in 1971.. All very reliable.. Amazing comfort, speed, handling and safety with unique character and charm.

Great video! You didn't mention--or I didn't hear you say anything about the DS20, which was the most common one we see today. We had three of them, two at the same time, one was a four speed, the other a five. We never had an issue with any of them--the first was written off in an accident which the cops estimated the other vehicle was travelling at around 120 mph. The driver and passenger of the BMW both died on impact, Mom and Dad walked away from it. The Citroens were incredibly safe vehicles.

OK, first time I have seen one of your videos, so a couple of bits of info: the manual speed regulator that you found is a choke, but with the older cars in your collection, you must know that surely? It is to set the rich start for a cold engine. The 'logo' is the double chevron. And what on earth is wrong with the semi automatic gear box? There were not nearly as many fully automatic boxes and these were produced towards the end of the production run, but the semi autos were just a dream to use. The 'magic wand' gear shift on top of the steering column allowed you to change gear with just one finger, but it was a 4 speed manual with the clutch actuated by the hydraulic governor when you lifted off the throttle and flicked the lever to the next ratio. They were not a problem. I had the pleasure of owning one in early 90's before children made a house move essential. Enjoy the one you have - they are far more robust than you seem to give them credit for.

I have a collection of Rolls Royces from the Cloud, Shadows, Spurs, & the newer Ghost. I'm considering the purchase of a 70 ID. I have never driven/ riden in a Citroen. Would the ride be dramatically better than a Rolls Royce? Would the Citroen be crude in comparison? Would you advise not getting one if one does not have a dedicated mechanic in his area? Any guidance would be most appreciated! Your videos are awesome! Thnx.

There was a Citroen dealership in Ca that went out of business sometimes in the 80s, the owner stored all the new parts in 10 containers and moved them to a private airstrip east of Los angeles in the high desert, they have enough parts to completely assemble few cars, i don't the contacts but as of 2 years ago i drove by the private airstrip and the containers are still there.
