USA here. Many decades ago, in 1970, while in the Coast Guard, I bought what one fellow Coastie said was "the best designed and worst built car in the world" a 1965 Citroen DS19. The DS19 had raise/lower suspension, 4-speed manual with automatic clutch (shifter was on top of the steering column), cavernous and quiet cabin and drove like a space ship. My DS had Toyota reliability long before Toyota had it. I would LOVE to be able to buy this Citroen e-C4 in America. Fun video. Thank you.

Unfortunately Citroën don't make that suspension any more, since 2016 (2017?). My last car was a Citroën C5 Ⅲ 2008 (first year of the Ⅲ version), but today's C5 is a whole different car. If there was an all electric version of the Citroën C5 Ⅲ, maybe I'd buy a car again. Maybe someone could mix a C5 with a Tesla Model S or something, that would be cool, I think… I know there's some video here on KZbin about an all electric Citroën DS. That's kind of cool too. :)

I'm considering buying the e-C4, but let's be honest: Comfort is great, space is good, price is fairly good, range is OK-ish. Very good for its battery size is the charging speed. For great range, nothing beats e-Niro/Kona at this price point, but charges slower despite bigger battery (in my country a M3 SR+ is priced quite considerably over aforementioned).

There will come a time when driving 1000km in a stretch on your own will be too much. At 68 I found that 600km was really as much as I could cope with in one stretch in M3 SR+ with FSD which made it significantly easier. Thank you for doing this for us to see. I think a 500km or 600km challenge would still be enough to differentiate between different models and represent a more typical touring daily stint, if it starts to get risky for 11 hours. As none of your stops are a full 45 mins - which is optimal for alertness recovery, I cant help be a little concerned for you. 😘

I think one of the reasons may be that over 500 kms you wouldn't be able to see the differences in charging speed and range of the different cars as 1 charging stop would start to be common with most models and therefore end up with a very similar time.

Completely agree with @JG. We have a Tesla Model 3 and a Zoe. The Zoe is the perfect city car IMHO. In Germany, charging infrastructure in cities is not as developed as probably in Norway and other places. Most of the public chargers within cities max out at 50 kW DC but always offer 20 kW AC. This together with the size and affordability makes the Zoe a fine city choice especially for people who rely on public charging infrastructure.

Very nice test, that highlights how important it is optimize the trip (which calls for ABRP). Long trips in my old Tesla Model S is also way faster using ABRP, when set to allow only 10% SoC for charger arrival, seems the built in navigation plans for 20% reserve, which cause too slow charging. Was impressed by the Citroen low SoC charge rate, I saw sum of kW and SoC above 135, which my Model S no longer supports, it has SoC + kW at approx 120.

The car is equipped with a 50 kilowatt-hour battery, with which the ë-C4 achieves a 350-kilometer operating distance in WLTP measurement. However, at worst, we were closer to 150 kilometers.What made the situation particularly unpleasant was the way the car communicated about it. The estimated operating distance in the evening after charging was 306 kilometers when the battery charge was 94 percent. When you set off after a cold night, the reading has understandably dropped to 266 kilometers.At this point, a person relying on the system may step into a deep swamp. Exactly 57 kilometers later, the estimated operating distance was only 70 kilometers left! The problem was repeated during the test run in several different situations and with several drivers - this does not inspire confidence in the person moving to the electric car.Charging further highlights the problem - a cold battery when not charging very quickly. In theory, charging from zero to 80 percent is possible in as little as 30 minutes, but even in severe frosts, the charging power remained in the range of only about 11 kilowatts, even at its weakest fast chargers. The challenge applies to all electric cars, but some have been more successful here as well.
@mikak-h45433 жыл бұрын
That was Moottori-magazine test? It is possible that the car had same problem like ë-C4 that Tuulilasi-magazine test in january 2021. Later service find out that there was a series of cars which was not programmed properly. Those cars didn't use heatpump at all. The whole heating was done by 5 kW PTC resistor, that is quite huge increase to consumption / 100 km. That bug was repaired by software update.

The e-C4 seems to be a nice car, especially for germans with joints and back pain. Personally, I prefer flat and more efficient cars. But nevertheless, I like these videos from Björn. Some days ago I was on 800km-trip with the Model 3 SR+ MIC in GER and a little bit in DK, fully loaded with 3 grown ups, 2 Children and full trunk and frunk. The average was at 165wh/km, but our speed was at least 130km/h (Ok, there were some slow construction sites) always, when allowed and with some short sprints to 180-190, when required (in order to not disturb the BMW-fossils, who always do 1000km without stops and always over 200km/h with 6l/100km^^). Edit: I think, the improoved charging curve could have something to do with the reduced capacity. If they cut off the upper voltage and thus reduced the cap. by 4 kWh, higher speeds seem possible at higher SoC. But it has nothing to do with the real SoC then. I think, they improoved the curve a little bit and the rest of the improovement comes with the upper cut off. But for me, thats a downside.
@vikingdk91503 жыл бұрын
The available capacity is not reduced in this car - it is the same for all PSA cars with this drivetrain. It is just because in the range test it was calculated based on GOM instead of SOC as I understand it. When GOM says (-) you still have 5-7% - which can also be seen on the battery indicator/bar in the car or in the app. That will give a range of 315-320 km and capacity of ~44 kWh at 90 km/h - similar to the other PSA cars.
@angeldominguez49933 жыл бұрын
@@vikingdk9150 In fact voltage at 100& SoC is now lower, which means the new 100% SoC has less energy than previous one. That also explains why we have some regen at 100% SoC (previously we had none at 98-100% SoC). So I think most of the improvement is because of higher current at high SoC, but some of it it is because now we have a little less capacity

Is there a goldilock zone regarding battery size, charging speed and flattening curves? As it seems the flattening happens relevant to the size of the battery, so the bigger the battery, the longer the charging times. But also the longer distance you can drive on one charge. Higher average charging speeds upto 55/60% verses lower count in charging sessions... And the cost of charging, which probably is more expensive when charging higher capacity charging EV's like the Etron, drving up the TCO. Somehow it feels the goldilock zone is with cars like this ë-C4, and the Kia e-Niro, and even with the Hyundai Kona and ioniq (old model). Does that gut feeling pan out in your sheet?

He only stops for charging. With this he compares how much time he needs to complete the 1000kms, using various cars. You can see his spreed sheet in the discription with all the data

@@caps244 thanks. wonder if we will ever see the day an EV will be able to go a thousand kilometers per charge?! Now wouldn't that be something....
