There's 8 clubs that are significantly bigger than the rest; Liverpool and Man Utd are top 2; Arsenal are comfortably 3rd; Chelsea and Man City (who were in this big 8 prior to their lottery wins) are 4th and 5th; then you have Tottenham, Everton and Aston Villa in 6th, 7th, 8th (Everton were probably 4th biggest up until the turn of the century; now have dropped to below Chelsea, City and Tottenham). I think it's clear that Man United and Liverpool are the 2 biggest clubs not just because of both being the most successful in terms of silverware but the story that sits behind each club, and as sad as it is the tragedies are part of the reason, because fans have that deep rooted connection with their history and it almost turns their stadiums into a church or a places of worship and it becomes more than a football club . Plus both have incredible global fan bases

@AP-di6guАй бұрын
Tragedies have nothing to do with it. If they did, Bradford City would be considered a big club. Big clubs are simply footballing organisations with large fanbases and revenues. Big clubs go away on pre-season tours and fill out stadiums on whichever continent they're playing.

City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd and Chelsea are BIG clubs. If you have WON: - 5 of the last 6 EPL titles - a domestic double in 2 of the last 4 years - a domestic treble 5 years ago - The Treble last year - in 2023, the Treble, plus the European Super Cup, plus the World Club Championship - the League Cup 6 times in 8 years (2014-2021) AND if in the current season you are in the running for: - back to back Trebles (never previously achieved by any club in European history) - a 4th domestic league title in a row. Never previously achieved in the long history of English football - back to back Champions League winners - back to back domestic Doubles - a 6th league title in the last 7 years THEN the thing speaks for itself. Man City are a BIG club, a Superclub - however you want to cut and dice it. That said, I’m a United fan. I wish it were otherwise with City. But sometimes you just have to hold your hands up… and accept the truth.

I don't understand it when people disregard new fans of Chelsea or City, or any club for that matter. It looks like many don't realise how someone new to the sport comes to support one club or another. Unless you have family or friends who influence you, you'll tend to support the teams that play well now and are entertaining to watch (and these teams often win trophies). Liverpool and United were big clubs before football started in 1992 because a lot of people like yourself seem to think that football only started when the premier league started. It’s not about the millions that have been spent since that’s only come about because of the 2 money clubs investing millions into their teams and Liverpool and United have had to keep pace.
