@ 8:25, it was very gracious of Ford to show that bad drivers can own their products too.

Very good video with sensible wisdom. Always try to be a courteous driver and act as if the other driver doesn't see you and like the gentleman said, never assume they will do what they're supposed to do.

This must have come out in September or October of 1959 since I saw some 1960 model year vehicles.

Some of this was recorded in Phoenix, Arizona. In the early 1980s, Arizona had some flexible laws about speeding. When I lived there in 1983 & 1984, a speeding ticket read "speed greater than reasonable and prudent" which made it easier to argue in court. It also gave police some leeway to write tickets to people that were unlikely to argue it in court. An officer could write you for driving within the speed limit if he felt it was faster than reasonable and prudent. Most people won't bother to go to court and argue it. The few like me that would go to court and argue it could beat the ticket every time.

Except the strange Yield sign (it is the first time that I see that trapezium sign - today is a triangle), everything is as modern as today. I am impressed. Although1959, the traffic is already showing signs of congestion - today most of the roads are busy/congested almost everywhere.

most of the drivers today should watch this video. Red seems to mean "speed up" and run the light or stop sign. When did this change?

Towards the end, a lot of footage was filmed around Metro Detroit. Lodge Freeway, I-94 and other locations. Lots of 1960 models featured, either as part of the set-up or background vehicles on the road. So, if this was indeed filmed in 1959, it was very late in the year. I'd suggest it was actually made in 1960, though.

Also spotted a big old Jaguar sedan at about 19:45. Pulled out right in front of the foreign car - which I think might have been an early Toyota.

By the late 50’s, imports were over 10% of the us car market. That’s quite a bit. Successful imports (and Rambler) forced the big three to come out with economy compacts (Falcon, Corvair, Valiant).

1:29 - This is something most drivers in these dash cam cash videos need to learn. 11:20 - This would stop many of the crashes that occur. Wow, remember the '60s? Open windows, no air conditioning, side mirrors were optional? Notice that the darker Falcon has no outside mirror.

Ignorant comment. You presume that young people shouldn't move in somewhere to get housing just because it inconveniences you. In my experience, young adults are more gracious and careful. It's the middle aged to senior citizens that cannot see on the road very well and swerve, as well as being so rude in restaurants and retail.

No one would have worn them anyway. To that generation seatbelts were for commies and sissies. They chose instead to brace themselves or just bet on being thrown clear just before impact. Yes they honestly believed that.
