I liked it better than the Jackie Chan version. At least, this time, he doesn't get thrown into an arcade machine and turn into Chun Li.

@@pralayaryan it was cringe then and it is cringe now. Wong Jing and Jackie Chan don't really get along from what I hear. It was because of their experience working on City Hunter. Wong Jing eventually made a movie to mock Jackie Chan.

@@tinlunlau1 Both Wong Jing and Jackie Chan are ego manics to begin with and by the time City Hunter was made both had too much successes in film making under their belt to listen to each other - this coupled with the fact that their speciality are both rooted in comedy so Wong Jing would think he knows what comedy is good, but also Jackie Chan would have his own idea what comedy is good, them not liking each other is expected.

@@nanaholic01 I went to an event in Toronto where Jackie was signing autographs and taking photos. And this one lady was the head honcho of the Jackie Chan Canadian fan club. Mentioned Jet Li and she was immediately pissed. It was because of Wong Jing making High Risk.

@@tinlunlau1 yes it's also no secret Jackie Chan feels insecure against Jet Li cos Jet Li was a heavily traditionally trained martial artist while Jackie Chan was really only trained in Chinese opera acrobatics, so when doing action scenes Jet Li would look far better and much more elegant as he can incorporate actual martial art moves into the set fight pieces, whereas Jackie Chan can't. Jet Li being the winner of martial art competition also meant that he is literally faster and more accurate than Jackie Chan when performing fight sequences, and Jet Li also does his own stunts, which is Jackie Chan's entire bread and butter. It also didn't help in Jackie Chan's case that Jet Li was nearly always considered far more handsome than he is. When Jet Li's popularity was raising they were often compared against each other by the media and Jet Li would nearly always come up on top, for someone that is as insecure as Jackie Chan (he openly admits that in his own books about how he flaunted his new found wealth during his youth so people won't look down on him, so this is not character assisination but Jackie's own words) his ego simply can't take it.

I Love /enjoy every City Hunter version they made. Read Manga and wached Anime when i was kid.. Liked the movies and series Netflix in too and the French too.. 🥰 Mokkori more Mokkori..!!!

This city hunter is perfect‼️ The city (kabuki cho shinjuku)"s view ,good things,and bad problem of thd city in Japan. And these caracter is very close to original. But,my biggest surprised is the main actor he could do both things ryo's womanizer caracter and serious gun fighter caracter. At reast, born the actor who can such a things to do in Japan!!! I(m very grad and exciting.thank you net flix thank you for ths movies crew thank you Ryohei Suzuki! your body was nice.

I think the characters are true to the anime besides a small change for Kaori. But the production missed what’s city hunter. The movie barely tells us about it. City Hunter should be that last resort that brings hope to the people who need it. They focused too much on the main arc. The main arc gives us a beginning of Ryo’s story and it’s ending. It’s just for the author and the readers/viewers to know when it ends and how it began. It’s a good adaptation but not great. Agree with the 3/5.

This is an origin story telling us how Ryo and Kaori formed City Hunter, much like in the original source material which this is adapting from. Without spoiling anything this movie loosely adapted the first two volumes of the 35 books of the series - so feeling it doesn't tell you anything is definitely by design and not a failure. The two of them together very slowly developing their relationship and how as a team (in the source material and just like in the ending here, Ryo was very reluctant to accept Kaori as his partner, and the payoff is when he actually does outright call Kaori his partner very late in the manga) they solve issues for other desperate people spanned many stories in the manga/anime and is perfect for sequel material. The key point is even Ryo was slowly changed by Kaori in how he accept jobs over the span of the series so I don't think the creator of the show "missed" anything here at all, but rather it's part of the plan to leave enough room for more installments.

It is interesting the comment about Ryo's capacities with his fighting style. His exceptional skills are part of Ryo and his whole background. Actually, if you know the manga and if you pay attention to the film, there is a scene when saeko and ryo talk about the angel dust, that you see a kid with a knife possesed by angel dust in a pilled of corpses. It looks like a war zone. Moreover the angel dust victims can perform inhuman deeds. The scene seems out of nowhere but ....and now spoilers from the manga Ryo is supposed to have a better combat strenght and extreme bullet precison from the angel dust as he was one of the first angel dust victim as a kid...and survived... This film is only about introducing city hunter. I agree with the comment below they should have explain the meanning of city hunter that is the last resort. But you do not learn in the manga at the beginning as well The jacky chan film is an horror to city hunter fans as it did not capture the essence of city hunter. It is all about ryos journey and the sweeper life. Another thing important, the main villain told him to join him and the helicopter did not come to pick him when they saw ryo...that was correct as in the manga the angel dust was not interduced in japan anymore

I love City Hunter in all its variations but this is the live-action anime that takes the cake. I need a double feature with the Nicky Larson movie(the French adaptation of City Hunter) from a few years back.
