The City of Dallas is taking a new approach to security at homeless encampment sweeps. They say it's an effort to improve communication and ensure safety, but activists worry it could have the opposite effect.

There not , it's compassion of help but everybody doesn't receive that because of mental illness they suffer from..

Ah, the homeless problem in Dallas. According to conservatives, I thought that was only a problem in liberal cities.

We will never reduce street homelessness and crime without reducing the amount of fentanyl drug available on our streets. It is everywhere and dirt cheap. Fentanyl destroy humans mentally and physically beyond the point of repair very quickly. Street homeless are fentanyl addicts, and street encampments are open air drugs markets brewing all sorts of crime. They gradually destroy everything around themselves. many will die from overdose, or drugs related violence that's fueling our skyrocketing homicides rate.

Reading these comments makes me feel so bad for humanity. How could you all have no compassion towards homeless people? Do you even know the pain? It is hard enough for them. Their life is struggle every single moment may be that's why it is hard to them to keep the place clean, keep themselves hygienic etc. Two things should happen : 1. Mental health awareness and better treatments for adults (which is lacking in America) 2. Affordable housing, meals and basic clothing for people who don't earn much. Remember that there are people who are mentally very ill and they can't even work or function normally and it can be a reason for homeless. Or they are disabled/troubled in other ways. We all have to lend a helping hand .

If you have to tell these "adults" to clean up after themselves, do you really think they're fit for anything more than what they already have? Taking no pride in their tent home will expand to no pride in any home that they're provided...

Even when they got free hotel rooms during covid some of them were still setting up tents and collections of trash in public. Give them housing and they still hang out on the street all day cause they're "mentally ill" and don't want to work do anything productive.

They should post the time everybody needs to be out then at that time drive through with a fire hose. When it comes to homeless sleeping in town if you don't draw a hard line it will wind up like Portland or LA.

@Huitzilopochtli Quetzalcoatl ~ you should be more concerned about the people from Cali., who are able to afford homes in Texas, as the R.E. markets love to cater to the big spenders, as they're already accustomed to paying high rent and mortgages.

If the city of Dallas claims they are using compassion in dealing with homeless camps and other homeless endeavors that must be a first. It’s usually the police followed by dump trucks to put all the homeless people’s belongings in, followed by the white police vans arresting the homeless, confiscating everything they have and putting them in either a detox center or jail for a day or two then tossing them out on the streets with nothing but what they are wearing. Many times they lose their ID cards, medications, personal items like wallets or bags which means they cant go to a shelter because they no longer have a valid form of ID. Then its waiting for two weeks or so while the Presbyterian ministry downtown works with them to regain a form of valid ID. The City of Dallas approach to homeless people is this…Only taxpaying citizens have rights. Non taxpaying citizen are the bane of society and must be removed or incarcerated. I have literally years of working with homeless organizations and actually took the city of Dallas to court and won. The only help the city of Dallas gave was help to select organizations to the government trough.

Horrible situation. Tiny home villages need to added to the city's empty spaces--away from children's schools, etc ==all these people need shelter w/privacy-protection. No drugs or alcohol allowed on sites with tiny homes. Being drunk and disorderly in public should be a misdemeanor. Choice of detox or jail after that.
