City of Tolleson: Part One

Take a trip into the past with Tolleson's solid waste fleet. They use one Heil and two Leach rear loaders for bulk trash, and two rapid rails and a curbtender for residential collection.
Last week, the Phoenix trio made a couple trips to Tolleson during their bulk pickup week. We were pretty surprised to find out what chassis their Leaches are on, and that their Curbtender was down (or it's the spare) and they ran both their rapid rails for residential.
This video mainly features bulk collection - their Volvo/Heil F5000 and one of their Leaches, as well as one clip of a rapid rail. All the drivers we met and filmed here were absolutely the best, and we definitely had a great time filming!

My 2 and 6 yr old's walk around all day making the same sounds as this first truck! :) Love those black bins! Thumbs up!

Love the first clip with the RR, one reason being because that's the most glass I've ever heard falling out of carts from up north and they're not even recycling bins! lol Also noticed on the last cart he didn't grab it properly the first time, making it slip, with me only taking note now about how those adaptive grippers actually work - a cool discovery =] Always enjoy the smooth engine sound of those old Volvos, both the SL and RL alike. Like how the packers guides on the 5000 aren't simply straight, so it appears to drop into the hopper at the end of the lower and retract into the tailgate at the end of the raise stage. The Leaches were neat to see, can't remember the last time I watched a video of a 2R baby version :D Great footage!!!

I drove a 2000 Model volvo flusher truck year ago and another driver mistook the loud airbrake sounds for the horn and he began giving me the finger and cussing at me through the window, almost wrecked from laughter!

Was the first clip of the Rapid Rail recycling? Seemed like almost every can was full of glass.

SoCalGarbageTrucks No. He was doing the 'green waste' route and grabbed those trash cans from that bar. Probably so they have twice a week collection.
