Honest opinion, I remember as a child growing up on the farm loved the well water we had with a slight bit of iron, " Made me strong like Ox!". Now as an adult I hate all the extra chlorine and fluoride in my water depending on the season, hatted when the septic field backed up because of an unusually high water table and flooded my room in the basement as a child on the farm. Pros and cons to both but I do have a back flow installed in the city and if I want I can use a filter system to deal with the chlorine and even the fluoride if I want. I'd love to have the city sewer and a good well, but where I'm at I don't think I can have the best of both worlds. 😮‍💨

Been on both, refuse to be on well and septic again, for the bit of extra yearly cost on city it is well worth it. Power goes out on well? You’ll need a generator for that to even operate. Let alone all the filters and softener systems you need to drink from the well. Also gotta factor in the cost when the pump breaks down, especially during cold winter times. That shits painful

What about when a SHTF event occurs and water gets shut off? Is a Well better in that situation?

I've lived on public water and sewer my whole life, and most of what you're describing are once-in-a-lifetime situations, or possibly never-in-a-lifetime. These are fringe cases at best. That said, the affordability aspect is definitely interesting.

You're right that being at other peoples mercy is not good, but most people can't service and repair their own wells or septic systems so they're still at other peoples mercy. Beyond that, being able to skip all the maintenance and necessary filtration etc that a well usually requires by having city water is beyond its price in value. Time is money. Been on city water everywhere I've ever lived my whole life and to date, I've never had an issue with my water. I did have an issue with the bill when my son turned the outside spigot on without my knowledge and left it on for days... but had I been on a well, it probably would have cost me $5k for a new pump! Just sayin. I like the idea of independence, but I don't think a well and septic truly give you that.

Can you answer some questions? I'm looking to buy a lot that requires well/septic. I'm worried about smell of water, staining, clothes smelling bad etc.

Wells will require several stages of filtering. All ur concerns should not be of concern with a well system

I am about to buy a 5 unit mobile home park to convert to a tiny home community. Currently, the park only has one well/septic.. Homes are vacant. I need each home to have water.. do you know how much it'll roughly cost for 5 homes? is anyone willing to help a brother out, its my first project.

It won't cost much extra if you store the water in tanks, there's no need for additional wells.
