Recently our Bishop began a new series on the Holy Spirit’s Gifts. When we speak of the Holy Spirit’s gifts we’re speaking of supernatural manifestations, not something that can be taught or worked up. This Sunday’s focus was on the gift of the word of wisdom. There are three general types of wisdom: there’s natural wisdom or “common sense,” then there’s godly wisdom that we can all pray for to guide us each day, and finally there’s the Holy Spirit-breathed word of wisdom that comes supernaturally and in an instant. At any point in time God can use anybody to speak a specific word to a situation that changes everything for those on the receiving end. When we speak of the word of wisdom and the other gifts of the Spirit, what we’re really focusing on is the ways in which God empowers his Church…
