@HAZZARD They have that rule so that before the game starts nobody breaks the Rim or Backboard and then the game has to be CANCELED. Imagine how dumb it would be for a team like Spire that traveled so far to the game only to have the game CANCELED 10 minutes before it started. Most High School players can DUNK. And in warm-ups with no defense you might end up with 20 to 50 Dunks per TEAM. Eventually after a whole season or 2 season of 20 to 50 Dunks a game for each team and the rim is going to give away. Schools USUALLY cannot afford to have a backup Goal hanging around to install and even if they did they would need a Professional to install it right. That's why they have to have the RULE. It's actually common in most states.

It’s one thing if someone does it excessively and in celebration. It’s more of a necessity if you’re off-balance and just letting go could result in an injury because you fall all awkward.
