Great tips mate. One question. I've noticed that volumetric clouds tend to disappear to never come back again. I have most of my advanced setting set on high including volumetric clouds. I'm not sure if that is due to simply weather changes in natural way during play time or if its some sort of bug. I don't have mods installed that would tweak with weather like "no clouds" for example. Any ideas? Perhaps I'm missing something. I'd appreciate your input on that issue. Edit: Perhaps volumetric clouds show up periodically at seasons? I've checked and V.clouds showing up correctly in photo mode but other than that I've seen them once or twice during 1000 hrs of play time so there is definitely something wrong.

Edit : Ok so it is the map fault perhaps. It is set to sunny only. I wonder If the save game can be modified to change that to sun/rain but in the other hand there can be clouds without the rain so it doesn't make any sense. Ugh

That traffic ai at 23:37 was really impressive. How they stopped for the pedestrian and then went to only realize there is a bus coming and stop again is something you would see in real life and definitely not in CS1.

I just called the cops on you Phil. Reported you for obviously bugging my home. I’ve been a Mac guy for 20 years, but just added a PC to my life for games, uh I mean work. The work I’m talking about is CS2 which is not available on a Mac. Was thinking out loud… ‘I wonder how I install mods and which mods should I use?’ I open YT and your video is right there. You’re one of the best creators out there, between you and Biffa, I survived the COVID years with your videos on Verde Beach. I love the videos, the back story and the zoning reality you bring. Would love to see a tropical build across multiple islands one day, but then you already know that from the camera feeds you have at my home. Happy New Year!

Fantastic list! I'd like to add all the decal packs made by Sully. They take your city to another level, not even exagerating. Wouldn't make my top 20 list, but they are a must have for me! Industry looking brand new? Not any more. Sports parks looking like they've never been used? Not any more. Construction sites, gardens, parks, back yard alleys, parking spaces etc etc... All look better with a sprinkle of Sully's decals.

I already used most of these mods but watched the whole thing as appreciation for their existence. It is kind of awe-inspiring seeing all their features lined up like this, all so well thought-out and cleanly implemented. It's made this game vastly more enjoyable to play. As we learned during the dark times when modding wasn't officially supported yet, there is no Cities: Skylines without the modding community. And some kudos to Colossal Order for reworking certain features in CS2 that made mods like these possible. For example, manipulation mode with Move It, surface fill/replacement with Area Bucket, and changing building colors with Recolor weren't possible even with mods in CS1 because the underlying functionality didn't exist. The extensibility of this game has tons of potential if both CO and modders can get it there.

Very helpful and informative video and much appreciated! One critique is I have no idea why you waited until the end to mention Skyve for managing mods. I know you're going in descending order, but you should have opened with this and said, "Here's how you use this vital mod to install and manage these other mods" or something. Skyve should have been the first thing you mentioned because it solves all the problems trying to use PDX mods in-game and through the web browser. It also allows for sharing playsets and a *lot* or other features. Modding is otherwise unusable and incredibly jank without it.

PDX mods is missing another key feature. The ability for mods to update in the background without needing to launch the game first. I find PDX mods to be fairly slow, and most updates require a restart. It's not ideal. When I want to play the game, I want to play the game *now*, not after things slowly download (I have 1 gig down) and then the game restarts. By time the mods would update, I was annoyed, and wound up playing something else instead. Sure, there is yet another mod I could download to get around this but then that is yet one more thing I need to have installed and running and up to date, ie yet one more thing for me to manage. Steam workshop does not have these problems. Mods for the original CS simply updated in the background when Steam is running and were good to go whenever I wanted to play the game. I get PDX mods will be needed for consoles but 1) that version is still a lonnnnng way from being a reality and 2) I'm not a fan of devs limiting PC options for the sake of the console version.
@CityPlannerPlays
@CityPlannerPlays 22 күн бұрын
Interesting. I had the exact opposite experience with Steam. I'd routinely run into issues where a mod or two wouldn't update unless I restarted my PC, with little rhyme or reason for it happening. And I'm couldn't use Skyve (existing saves, multiple windows accounts), so I was kind of stuck in the lurch from time-to-time. I personally just think that PDX is better than Steam right now and as more potential to be even better than it in the future. A few reasons: - being able to download different versions of mods at - mods aren't removed from your machine if the author delists them (HUGE build killer in CS1) - mods can be managed from a website, with multiple playlists adjusted at once - maps can be added while in-game and used immediately There are shortcomings though: - lack of playlist sharing at this point is baffling - organization isn't that great - search could use work - missing the ability the subscribe to all mods in a save is a miss You mentioned that you believe the only reason for the switch to PDX mods was console, and for a time I was there, too. However, I'm thinking that it's more about potential than anything else. Steam is what steam is and nothing can improve or change that. PDX has am in-house team dedicated to improving PDX mods, including based on community feedback. Since it has been released, it has actually improved quite a bit. And I can see a future where it has some killer features that Steam could never provide. Imagine being able to dive into PDX mods while-in game, download an asset (I know, I know), and immediately place it into your build. I don't think it's far-fetched, since you can do that with maps. I'm also hoping that we get the ability to share unlisted mods (for beta testing and early access), something I don't think is possible on Steam. We'll have to see what happens, but I think the issues with PDX mods are a bit overblown tbh. It's not perfect, but I don't think it's objectively and 100% worse than Steam - it's just different. I also think that PDX should just hire TDW or buy Skyve from him, haha. It's such a great and useful tool, it's wild to me that they wouldn't want to be in control of it.
@VaingloriousGaming

@@CityPlannerPlays all fair points, though my primary concern is that I have to wait for it when I launch the game. I want mods updated in the background, even if I haven't launched the game, all without needing to download yet another mod to manage it. I'm not asking for much ;)

Two mods that probably need a mention: Extra Assets Importer - I think that this will be a crucial mod when assets get supported later this year. Not to mention the great work Sully and El Guendo have already done. Tree Controller - there’s an option so that trees will show dead status during the winter months before coming back to life in the spring, instead of unrealistic autumn colours in winter. Also I got rid of traffic after that issue, but will probably add it back in along with that traffic light mod

First off, Phil, great video as always. You're the ultimate professional and you bring flair and wit and humor to your videos. This game wouldn't be nearly as much fun without you. I am wondering when PDX mods will have its beta status lifted? Beta software is for undergoing testing but not yet fully released. This isn't meant to be going on forever, yet it seems like PDX mods is never going to be released from beta and given final status. Those of us who have been playing the PC version for well over a year now, need Paradox\CO to concentrate their devs on finalizing this game experience for us. This means mods, assets, UI improvements, etc. We've already bought and paid for the product, and it wasn't for a forever beta version. I've got more than 1000 hours playing this; I work with developers in a global company and understand the dev cycle. I know that there are priorities. But keeping such a major part of the game in this perpetual beta status without any communications to the user base isn't what a well-run company should do. #rantoff. :)

You know, I'd imagine that one assets come along that beta get removed. I think that's probably what's keeping the editor in beta, too. You're right with the meaning of beta, at least in my understanding. Beta is pre-release for a limited number of people. This isn't beta, but it isn't finished. I think that giving it some other name would have been wiser, or just releasing it as full with a roadmap of future features. Interesting thoughts!

Nothing new, still disappoints me that paradox mods are not helping modders (the release of the asset editor for instance) and I hate that they still can't apply essential mods to the base game. Phil, thanks so much for this and actually all your contributions and involvement. I work in applied AI tech solutions, and I think what you are providing the Game and Paradox is what we usually include in training modules when we work with clients. I realize gaming industry is slightly unique, but this player/customer experience support (such as what Salesforce provides) is critical, and that is the function you are fulfilling. keep up the great work and I do hope Paradox/Colossal realizes what a great service this is!

Skyve's functionality should absolutely be in the CS2 launcher. Being able to manage mods before loading the game is a no-brainer.

another tips that works for me, if youre adding a mod but then you ecounter a bug, or a UI problem, i just go back to my playset, and click "reset load order" works for me.

To me, traffic is by far the most important mod. The vanilla behavior of intersections, especially highway connections, is completely absurd, and makes incredibly unsafe road conditions. The game was almost unplayable for me watching all of these 100kph u-turns crossing 4 lanes until traffic came out. I love all the detailing mods, too, but in practice I'm too impatient to actually fully detail most of my builds, lol

Better bulldozer is good for playing on custom maps. Some custom maps you can't change the intersections (because they were made with anarchy) but you can delete them with that mod

Hey cpp, lately you have been posting tutorial-, mod-, update showcase videoes and i find them interesting. But the reason i subcribed to you is because of your Lets play series, and lately those types of videoes have felt far in between. Sorry for my bad english, but i would be happy if you prioritized that type og content on your chanel. Happy new year

Every time. If the game loads the mods at all without crashing, it will then crash when loading a city. If I get past that then I’ll get about 30 minutes of play time before it crashes. Let’s not forget the random times it resets my games settings and turns off auto save. Don’t get me wrong, mods are great, and I actually really enjoy the game. My frustration levels are high though. Like the tip about using the web version of Paradox Mods though. Will use that.

Interesting. I haven’t had any crashes to desktop for a while now, and I have like 80 mods installed. The only time my game typically crashes is when I use Move It for too long. Have you tried to verify if your game files are corrupted in any way? You can verify the integrity of your files by right clicking on the game in steam and going to properties. Worth a try

Hi. Long time fan of the channel. I played the first Cities Skyline and have yet to play the second, other project got more attention at the moment. One thing I did miss in Cities Skyline (modern city builders?) is a sort council advice to give some direction what to focus on. My first city builder was Sim City, way back on the SNES, and they had this in the way of monthly popups with percentages what the population would like to see improved. This gave me direction what to work on, where usually I would find out too late when something is a problem. Does Cities Ckylines 2 have such a feature or a mod that does something like this?

Do all mods disable achievements? Or is there a distinction between mods which only make cosmetic changes (the tooltip one) vs mods that let you build things you otherwise couldn't?

Is this game worth it provided you do some light modding? One big sticking point for me was the performance since I generally perfer a minimum of 60fps. I heard the performance issues have been somewhat resolved but is this true?

All I want to know is how your anti-aliasing doesn't look horrible. I've been messing with the graphics settings of my game and I can't make the edges smooth. Normally if a game I play has bad AA I use Reshade. Unfortunately I'm using the game pass version so I can't install reshade on it. How does yours look so nice?

There is some mods or in game feature that I still waiting 1. Zoning toolkit that allow you to adjust the height of the zone. Seems hard but I hope someday this will come. Sometimes in some cases, I want on certain area the zoning height are only 3 boxes and one opposite part of the area take the other spaces which 6 boxes so the building are more realistic. I know, I can zone one area first then when building appear, I can zone next area but this take some much time to build. Or I can put pedestrian passage to block the zoning but pedestrian passage take more spaces than i wanted and its ugly 2. Mod that can help me adjust the height when build road and bridges. We have this mod in CS1, somehow we didn't get in CS2. Example, I want to build circle exit, from 10m to ground, I usually hit with unrealistic "un-align" level at certain point of the circle which in CS1, I just click start point and end point then the mod help align the height for me. I can't remember what this mod called in CS1. 3. Stairs for pedestrian bridges and also pedestrian passage with roof. I real life we have stairs. For disabled, we put elevator, or elevated passage. Also when make a u-turn, it takes much more spaces than it should. I know this is a game and it is not easy at the back to imitate real life but at least can we have preset design of stairs or parallel elevated passage that can snap into existing passage I still waiting these mod to come especially on number 1 Hope you can highlight this to paradox
