1987 when I was 18 I went out with a girl for 1 .5 years it was good for 8 months until she became someone I didn't know anymore but for that 8 months I genuinely believe she really did think I was her everything and loved me I realized in the end that that pure love no judging me putting me down it was enough for me for the rest of my life it burns bright now and has for over 30 years and I have it with me everyday and I have never found anything like it since so this old video of Whitney stays so close to my heart and I will go to my grave happy knowing I was really loved in this life even if it was for a short while

@assimilation ppl go ballistic when you criticize Whitney in any way, but you are accurate. I'm a singer who had bad technique and then ruined my voice with 10 yrs of cocaine. I've recently learned proper technique and my voice has come back. Its just not as fluid...anyway, I think Whitney's head is too big to ask for help.
@brett218520206 жыл бұрын
Damn, girl! Why you fuck yourself up? Why? Why? Why? You were so great!
@assimilation14 жыл бұрын
@virgo3732008 I wouldn't go that far. Technique-wise she's far from perfect. However what Whitney had is a very unique and beautiful tone to her voice, especially when singing softly. This is the reason I love Whitney, no one will replace her, ever. Others can singer higher notes, belt with less strain, have better consistency, but none one will sound like her.
@assimilation14 жыл бұрын
@toochie28 No I have listened intently to a number of her performances, going all the way back to her less then impressive pre come back performances. I don't listen to the media and prefer to make my own decision about these things. None of Whitney's recent performances show any of the magic the girl once had, she's totally lost it. Now this is not to say she can't sound decent, sure give her a song that requires no range and works better without belting and it's okay, but beyond that? No ty.
@Dr__Feelgood2 жыл бұрын
Was this version at least a half or full note higher in key than the album version?
@assimilation14 жыл бұрын
@mikelovesgod That shows nothing but straining and what contributed a major part, over the years, towards her vocal decline.
@bixxius14 жыл бұрын
@assimilation you should stop answering them, they only want everybody to say that she's perfect in every way, that she's still as great as she used to be, etc. I love whitney, she's my favorite singer, and she's still pretty good to me, but she is NOT that great anymore. she doesn't have to prove anything because she's already earned her status of legend, but this doesn't mean she can't be criticized and that her technique was/is perfect.
@bellamezzo15 жыл бұрын
ok friends--I'm going to be honest, because I LOVE vintage Whitney. This is was not one of her best. Will no one but me acknowledge that she was super pitchy in this performance? I don't think I've EVER heard that from her. Now, she's still Whitney, and her 'alright' is everyone else's 'amazing,' but still. That said, she quite possibly remains one of the most giftest singers ever--sharp notes or not.

@mikelovesgod You seem to be under the impression that I don't like Whitney. Why would I be watching this video if I didn't like her? In her prime Whitney is one of my favourite singers. Sure the technique she used helped destroy her voice, but ultimately that was her fault for not resting + drug abuse. Also the fact I haven't sold X number of records doesn't mean much when it comes to the fact of the matter. One does not necessarily have to be able to do, to be able to pass accurate judgement.
@assimilation14 жыл бұрын
@assimilation Carrying on. This is analogous to a guitar. Pluck a string in thin air and you hear almost nothing. Fix the string in front of the hollowed out wooden body (the guitars resonator) and boom LOTS of sound. Ergo it requires very little effort to make the big sound. If Whitney is having to push so hard that her veins start to bulge, then she's straining somewhere. Besides Whitney isn't known for having the best technique, her way of belting is particularly damaging to the voice.
@assimilation14 жыл бұрын
@mikelovesgod You can go on believing what you want :) Makes no difference to me. She's the one who can't sing any more due to the combination of a destructive belting technique and drugs.

@mikelovesgod With all due respect you have no idea what my education is with regards to singing and it's physical creation. The vocal chords are tiny ~15mm in length and vibrate against one another in a fashion similar to that of an oboe double reed. A trained singer only needs to use a small amount of effort to make them vibrate strongly. Also the vocal chords make hardly any sound, what you're hearing is the amplification of this sound in the bodies resonating cavities.
