This is how Monet approached his work. Good to see a master metamorphosise in one so young. Screw details . They won’t make your work better. Love this. Smart approach on the bridge wires.

Love the nearly Fauve simplicity. The way you handled the bridge cables is great. Your color gradations in the water work very well.

It felt Fauve to me as well! I made sure to stop before losing that effect.

Happy Father’s Day to you! And thank you for sharing your painting today. I never get tired of seeing the San Francisco Bridge. My favorite takeaways from your narrative are the vanishing point mark (duh!), getting your darker color trees in first to use for reference, use of the larger brush to not get too picky too early and leaving out lots of detail as the viewer can and will automatically “fill in the gaps”.😊

Very nice. I've switched to bristle because they seem to hold up longer.

Good morning Michael. Another Sunday and another wonderful painting! You do not need the straightedge for perspective; the trees in the foreground and the lightened green hillside anchoring the bridge do enough.

I like the thumb nail pic showing the corner of bldg and foreground cement framing the bridge in distance . That would make for a nice large size painting imo. Good job Michael

love how the bridge towers frame the vanishing point, and the street aims right in there too.. no "happy accident" there; i bet it's more about a history of worn "shoe leather" ! SF has street views that look like drone shots ❤

Leaving out the abundant 'smallies' makes this creation, to me, authoratative and appealing - an artist's worthwhile impression of this storied location. Sorry to be pompous, tee hee, but I really like this style of creation. Continue to wish you well.

Once again you've done a great painting. You mention using gray several times. I have a hard time making a gray. Any suggestions on how to to make both a cool as well as a warm gray. thank you for your great videos!!
@chamberlainpaintings5 ай бұрын
The gray I'm using just naturally forms on my palette after mixing for a while. If I want to mix a gray from scratch I'll mix two compliments with a bit of titanium white. For example, ultramarine and burnt sienna with a touch of titanium white. More ultramarine will make the mix cooler, more burnt sienna will make the mix warmer.

Hey Michael! Just curious what you think about painting on smooth surfaces? Like sanding down gesso on canvas until the surface is paper smooth? Advantages / disadvantages in your experience? Thanks for the educational videos!

Sometimes. More often I’ll use a photo on my phone. I only use the photo to get a few key lines in place and then I work from life. I use the photo like a thumbnail sketch.
