If its too fast take the speed down to 0.75 people. It helped a good deal and this tutorial series has a lot of good info.

I downloaded the files from the "pinned" comment. I need to replace the .SHX shape files. How do I fix this?

Too fast pace to grasp anything. A Beginner won't understand anything so fast. The trainer is no doubt very experience however he jumps very quickly.

This is exactly what experienced AutoCAD users want. When we've used AutoCAD for 10 years, we want to learn Civil3D quickly. There are other tutorials for complete beginners.

Yes, I rewatched at a slower speed and was still confused. I could understand the benefits of having the surface as a reference or in a separate file but never could figure this out.
