I have heard the word 'Grading' so many time and still don't know what it is. What is Grading please and what is it used ? why do we need to do it?

I find the easiest way to get a surface that shows the EG with the new Grading surface is to make a new surface, something called Finished Grade. In the new FG surface, under the edits section look for paste surface, then paste the original EG first then paste the new Grading surface. I will make a quick video showing this if you would like to see it step by step.

You can make a surface from the grading group and compare that to the other surface and/or you can make an alignment and use samples to get a volume. I will make another video about getting volumes from surfaces made from grading objects.

I am using the stage command but it have flaws, since if there are several contours of the same elevation it takes the smaller amd computes the volume for it and leaves the others as areas only ! I am trying to figure out how to make a proper Elevation storage table for the ponds.

You might want to check what workspace you are using, lower right corner looks like a gear. Or you might double check that you are running "Civil" and not the "Civil as AutoCAD" option that comes with the install. Beyond that I might need to screen shot to make a better guess. Good luck.

how come I dont have to option "Grade to Distance" in my toolbar I have only the "Standard" option. sorry not very familiar in civil 3d

Whenever you see "Standard" as your only option it means you are not using a template. When you start a drawing you should be able to hit New... and pick a DWT file from the list that includes the word NCS in it (for National Cad Standard)
