Civil Disobedience Movement started with Salt Satyagraha when Gandhiji started his 240 miles march from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi, coastal village of Gujarat and broke the Salt Act 1882. This I have already in this video - • Salt Satyagraha 1930 I...
All over India picketing of shops selling liquor, foreign clothes and goods was done in a non-violent manner. The participation of women from all age groups was observed. Student participation was seen on a large scale. Anti-Chowkidari tax campaigns was organized in Bihar, forest laws was violated in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Central Provinces . Also Cunningham Circular was issued. No-Rent campaign was organized against the Zamindars. Prabhat Pheris, Patrikas, and Magic Lanterns was used to mobilize the movement. Gandhiji withdrawed the Civil Disobedience Movement after Gandhi-Irwin Pact and agreed to participate in the second Round Table Conference. Lord Viceroy was replaced with Lord Willingdon on 18th April 1931 who was a bit more reactionary and extremist in his approach. The Congress Working Committee met at Bombay on 29th December 1931 and decided to resume Civil Disobedience. Gandhiji was arrested on 4th January 1932 and after that around 80000 people were arrested in a time span of 120 days. However the people all over India were standing in protest and there method of protest was simple - picketing & processions. Non-violent civil disobedience was crushed with utmost ruthlessness. Protests, demonstrations, peaceful picketing of shops were declared illegal. The Indian National Congress was declared as an illegal organization. Each and every Ashram of Gandhiji was now under the control of the police. The government plan was to not allow Gandhi and the Congress to build up the momentum of the Civil Disobedience Movement as it did in 1930 and it actually paid off. Officially, the Civil Disobedience movement was suspended in May 1933 and it was finally withdrawn in May 1934. Please refer to the video for more details.
