Haven't seen this in decades. Was still able to pick myself out in some of the shots. Strange seeing myself from so long ago when I Could still walk and run without assistance. Thanks for uploading.

I know it seems as if we were a small part of the real thing.Seeing ourselves all those years ago trying to understand the hell our ancestors and our country went through through.Reenacting is somthing you do because you accept it and want to understand the whole experience. Its not easy being out there in the heat and cold.We froze at Franklin and Burned at Slaughter Mountain.I have scars on my feet from blood blisters at Gettysburg 1988.I wouldn't have missed it for the world. My musket burned my hands a few times. Its standing in the corner polished and oiled ready to go when I can get my tired body to do a road match again.Reenacting is something you do because you want to not because you like it.👍

I love these older reenactments. The men were actually allowed to level their muskets and not fire into the sky.

I know right? I re-enacted for a couple of years and it bothered me immensely about shooting into the sky and not being allowed to use ramrods. We're supposed to be teaching the public history right? I don't why someone can't come up with a powder mixture with the bang but little explosive force to allow leveling muskets and ramrods again.

@Ryan Pedro They still use gun powder that is extremely hot and shoots out and it Ig can burn people and whatnot.

@Ryan Pedro Though extremely rare, if somehow the weapon turns out to be negligently loaded with an obstruction like a rock, (or worse, real ammunition.) it could easily kill someone. It's safer to never aim a weapon at a person.

@@tomservo5347 amen to that!! I wish we were allowed level our muskets it look more authentic to the period. Using ramrods during battle make the battle looks more authentic to the period. I hate firing high

My mother's great grandfather ×3 fought and was wounded at Anteitum with the 27th North Carolina, Walkers division under Longstreet, he passed not long after the war from complications from his wound, his regiment had over 200 killed or wounded at Sharpsburg, I aquired some of his personall belongings after my dear mother passed away in 2015, I've always been facinated with the civil war for that reason, and the fact that I live 2, streets over from his the empty lot that used to be his home, was also my mother's childhood home. Live in Fayetteville NC, Sherman marched right through town, burnt down the armory, the Fayetteville Observer, which is still the local paper, the iron works, and pillaged farms and burnt down some homes as well. Our Nation's history needs to be preserved, not torn down and destroyed.

Congrats to General Sherman. He said the right thing. And I agree. Preserve the history in books and museums so we can see the evils of the Confederate cause. All public monuments should go though. If anyone feels different, they should have won.

@Iron Brigade that's where you're wrong instead of jumping on the bandwagon and being a sheep why don't you try learning something about the civil war I bet you can't even tell me what day and year it started without looking it up, it's not about glorifying it's about preserving what made this country what it is today and without the civil war we wouldn't be what we are today. Destroying it and throwing it away would just make us like Russia but maybe you like the rest of these communist these days and have a boner for Russia and Putin and to be told how to live your life that's what they do in Russia they destroy the past so the future generations know nothing of what happened at least that's what they try to do.

Cool video, I just watched this on dvd today for the 156th. This series along with Ken Burns' Civil War are definitely my two favorite documentaries of the civil war.

'A View of the Constitution' - used as a textbook at West Point in the 1820's and later. The author allows for secession of a state. Deo vindice. 17 decades of intermission...part 2 coming soon!

I would love to see a movie that is historically accurate. With the numbers of men, horses, guns, wagons, tents, musicians, doctors, all included. I would like it to be more about life at the time of the war, than an account of the battle. Although I do believe that it should be about a battle, either Shiloh or Antietam. It should include some of the well known recorded history of the battle, but also some well recorded but lesser studied and known parts of the battle. But it should have a good deal of telling the story about soldiers and that make them seem human and close to home. One thing that I have come to understand about this war, is that the young men and boys who were convinced to sign up to fight, were mostly uneducated, especially in the South, where only the wealthy were educated. The movie should also have an accurate depictions of slavery, child labor, and the view of women and children being considered property of a man. We all know that slavery was the cause of the war. But slavery is not the reason all these young men signed up to fight. Most people from the South were not educated enough to understand what was happening. They were easily manipulated into believing that it was nessisary, it was in their best interest, and that it was a good idea. If they all thought that the war was over slavery, they wouldn't have had as much support for the war, especially among the poor, who were the most eager to sign up, and the most likely to be drafted.

At one point Pope thought he had the Confederates on the run. When this delusion was finally shattered Pope wrote a telegram to General Halleck of all people, pleading for him to take command. Halleck of course didn't want to leave his office in Washington. The rearguard action cost the Union of one of it's best fighters, Phil Kearny. (Had he survived I often wonder if Lincoln had plans for him to take command.)
