We're on the lookout for cannons in Southern California - this 1829 24-Pounder Seacoast Gun in Santa Ana, CA was previously neglected but now proudly stands in Jack Fisher Park.
Decommissioned coastal artillery cannon removed from Fort Winfield Scott in San Francisco after the Civil War.
Please excuse the constant jackhammering.

We have one nearly identical to this sitting in a park in Kalispell, Montana. I've passed it every day for 20 years not even thinking it was a real cannon until your video inspired me to go get a closer look and sure enough it had "W.P.F." and "1844" on it

969 S Bluff Rd, Montebello, CA 90640 Cannons commemorate the Battle of Rio San Gabriel at this site. Used to bicycle to work past this memorial. The Alcalde tried to set up an ambush using the Californio Lancers and was defeated by the use of artillery as US forces marched up the River from the ships. One of the few battles in LA County

There's a battery of RML's at York Redoubt, just outside of Halifax, NS and a completely reconstructed French Fortress at Louisburg, NS ...and if you're into diving, a french fleet took up permanent occupancy in Louisburg harbor. It's a protected dive site but you can get guides

I mean, there are a few around me, but I'm in Tennessee. There are so many Civil War sites around here that it is not at all surprising. Most of the ones I'm familiar with are on Battlefields and in museums, although some of those have great stories attached to them.

I’ve taken my wife to nearly every cannon I can find through our travels around the country, and one of the most fascinating place I’ve stumbled across (for cannons) is at Ft.Zachary Taylor in Key West, FL. 1st there’s a very good assortment of pre civil war, civil war, and post civil war coastal pieces in one place. 2nd is that they used a number of obsolete guns in the concrete that make up part of the Spanish American war era part of the fort. You can see them sticking out. Very unique site. Of course the best cannon site is Trophy Point at West Point.

Also there are two of those Crimea trophy guns on public display in Adelaide, capital city of South Australia.

We have Civil War cannons from I believe the USS Minnesota, A shell from the USS Maine, and a gun from the Spanish flagship at Manila Harbor during the Spanish-American war. All At the Minnesota veterans home located by Minnehaha falls. Oh, and at the MN capital building we have the USS Ward gun. There is a Civil War gun in front of the Old Washington county courthouse but I do believe that's a reproduction. Then there is a Civil War carriage gun at the Rock County courthouse in Minnesota.

Loved this! To think, minor public servants made every effort to ensure that history is preserved! Here in New Zealand we have pop up guns to defeat the Russian menace and ones to defeat the Japanese too. Always there, to remind us. God bless.

Did you make anything of the very circular impression on the muzzle face? Looks like it was struck by a grape shot!

I thought of that as well, but I think it’s most likely not from enemy fire of any kind. San Francisco didn’t come under enemy bombardment so this cannon shouldn’t have taken any fire. More than likely just vandalism, wear and tear, or some form of accident.

I'm on the woke, left coast of Canada, and we really don't have such things as those because like, wow man, they just seem to promote conflict resolution through violence. And that's really a Bummer, man... :)

Don’t be silly! There are cannons all over BC from the 18th century to the present. I know there’s a huge rifled 68-pounder and a full battery of Victorian 24-pound howitzers in New Westminster, Fort Rodd Hill has a whole collection of artillery, there are naval cannons all over the place, and not to mention Vancouver’s 9 O’Clock gun!

@@theministryforhistory You are quite correct, sir. I have been to all of them, as well. Back in the day my dad would take me down to Stanley Park to see (and hear) the 9 o'clock gun go off. Currently, the political scene up here is so left they are re writing our history. Indeed, the woke parties are wanting to change the name of our province of British Columbia. Sorry to be so cynical sounding, but sometimes I can't help myself. Regards from Canada 🇨🇦 Long Live the King
