A medley of Battle Hymn of the Republic/Dixie/ Rally 'Round the Flag played on my swamp dulcimer. One for the north, one for the south, and one for both.

John Brown's Body is the original tune. John Brown's body lies a moulderin' in his grave. John Brown the abolitionist was hung for his ill-fated raid on Harper's Ferry.

In my life so far I may have realized I am strange, I am aware of this, but I had no idea a small area where a man has made some beautiful instruments out in the swamp would enamor me so much! honestly this is so cool. I look forward to hopefully more swamp dulcimer vids!!

I never heard of a swamp dulcimer before.
@swc597 ай бұрын
It's just a dulcimer that was built from swamp wood and is stored and played in the swamp. Other than that, just like any other dulcimer.

Got a question, why do you call it a swamp dulcimer? because you play it in the swamp? you made it from swamp ash? or because of the shape? sounds good, just curious.
@swc595 ай бұрын
Because it was made from wood on my property in the swamp and because I play it there. Not sure which is more important to the name. 😄

@@swc59 did you make it? sounds fantasitic and deep... i do seagull and mountain standard. yours would go well with a mandolin and a euki that is its tone quality, try it some time!

I thought dulcimers were hammered, not plucked?
@swc594 ай бұрын
You're picturing a hammer dulcimer. Mine is an example of a lap dulcimer, also known as a mountain dulcimer. The lap and hammer dulcimers don't have much in common, lol.

I didnt know that was a covil war song
@swc595 ай бұрын
All three were sung by soldiers during the Civil War. First one by the north, second by the south and the third was sung by both sides but the lyrics were different.
