As perfectly as those bones were cut, I think I would check them against a good human anatomy chart. As many amputations as there were in the Civil War, they may be amputated human bone, ankles, elbows , so on.

TennesseeJeff Uhhh, you hope not?? That’s exactly the kind of thing you need to bring attention to your states historical services. They need to test it. You’re doing a great disservice by not doing that. Pissing a bunch of people off. Aquachigger is one of the nicest guys but he’d have your throat for keeping possible civil war amputated bones to yourself. POS.

With those cut bones and unspent rounds you probably stumbled onto a surgical tent area or where they parked the surgeons wagon at. They always burnt the bloody bandages and clothes. That would explain all the underwear buttons as well... The guys were probably undressed there and shit tumbled out of their ditty bags...

Very interesting and watchable thank you very much. In Great Britain we have a lot of ancient stuff being dug up all the time. Things l know can be different in the US. The difference though is that the stuff we dig up here leaves you scratching your head as to what the heck is it. Your stuff is all very human and we can easily imagine the story that goes with every find. Please keep posting.

You may already know this but in the archeology field trash pits are called "middens." Almost any place with humans living n a spot for a length of time had a area where trash, debris was tossed. My Dad called them treasure pits. He and friends seldom found any real treasure; an occasional coin, bullets, parts of weapons, buttons, knives and more. They had decades of fun though.

That is so exciting. To imagine that buckle has been resting there for ca. 150 years is so incredible. What a great find! Is there any record of a battle or encampment in that area? The cattle roaming by is so funny. That site would seem to qualify as archeological.

Jeff, I have seen another site just like the one that you found. I really hate to tell you this, but you found a field medical station site. That is why there were so many trouser buttons and so much glass. They were remnants from surgery. The bones that you found are a lower tibia and fibula from foot amputations. That is the reason they are cut so clean. When meat was cooked in the field, it was cooked for the mass. They would not have taken the time to cut the bone, they would have cut it at the joint. In the rare occasion that a bone was cut, it would have been done by a cook with a cleaver. Those are saw cuts. I could be wrong, but what was found at the the two sites is almost identicle. You should really look into it.

30:52 That could be a horse tooth. If it's fossilized, then it was one of the ancient and extinct horse, or some other plant-eating species, that inhabited North America thousands-millions of years ago. Years ago, I found one in Palm Beach County, FL along with fragments of a mammoth femur.

Thinking back to my find 20+ years ago, I now believe I stumbled across an ancient Indian site. A horse tooth and a split mammoth femur found right next to each other could mean that's where they sat and ate. It's too bad shortly after my find, the area has been developed into residential suburbs. Such is the case in south Florida. With the exception of state or federal parks & preserves, everything green is being bulldozed over for more urban sprawl; I hate it!

When the the bones were being displayed toward the end of the video I was thinking they looked more like human amputations than slaughtered animal bones. I thought it odd there would be animal bone remnants cut like that amongst all the garment paraphernalia. You could be on a former surgical sight during the war. Might be worth looking into.
