What is difference between going and tread ?? Please explain.

Going is the horizontal distance between two successive riser faces. This is measured from the nosing on one step to the nosing on the next…. Or from the face of the riser to the riser of the subsequent steps. The tread is the upper horizontal portion of a step upon which the foot is placed while ascending or descending a staircase.
