Finally, a proper Civ 6 tutorial! Not just "you have endless possibilities" and "there is no wrong choice". Thank you!

What Civ 6 tuts have you seen? There are tons of wrong choices.

SentinalhMC I mean none explain core mechanics like you do. Adjacency bonuses and terrain yield I believe is more crucial than what tech or policy to research first because when player place a city - this action is irreversible while you eventually research and build all other techs and buildings. btw, I always thought that it should be at least 4 tiles between cities to be able to place everything but with all those bonuses now I can see that even 3 tiles is enough.

This is a good explanation of adjacency bonus for farms. The last section on maximum food isn't quite right, though. Farm adjacency bonuses work for all adjacency, even if those extra farms belong to another civilisation or city state and/or are in the 4th ring of tiles around the city. That's right, if you build farms 4 tiles away from a city centre, it can't work them, but they will still boost farms 3 tiles away from city centre. Similarly, if you have a farm next to a farm inside someone else's border, your farm still gets an adjacency bonus.

In Civ V, I liked to have farms adjacent to one another because of the way they tiled together.

God damn! This really helped me out in civ 6. Just bought the game a couple of days ago and was struggling to understand the adjaceny bonuses of the different types of buildings. Thanks man I hope you keep it up!

You could get more if you allow for other cities farms to be adjacent (even other civ's cities) because the farms can recieve the bonus from other cities. You could theoretically get *every* tile to 10.

Very good video, much appreciate explaining the game from first principles. Will definitely check out your other "all about" or "design" videos.

Wow. I had no idea that there could actually be so much strategy behind the Farms in Civ VI. I usually treated them as sorta second-class districts: just place them on tiles like Wheat or Rice, then place more wherever when I need more Food or Housing. You've really changed the way I look at these things...
@SentinalhMC7 жыл бұрын
Yeah they really go a lot further if you plan them out. I hardly ever build them either.

Shouldn't the maximum amount of food be 354 (excluding population to work the tiles)? It should be possible to trigger adjacency bonusses over the workable city border, so if you fill a fourth ring around the city with farms, you are going to get 10 food on every tile exept the inner circle which would still yield 9 food. This would get you (6*3+6*2)*10+6*9 =6*5*10+54 =30*10+54 =300+54 =354 food. And you could still add trade routes for food.
@SentinalhMC7 жыл бұрын
Yes you could do that but I opted to stick within the city's workable border. As for trade routes yes you could get more food into the city but I chose to focus on the city producing the food for itself.

Thank you for explaining the bonus =) I was having a hard time understanding the wording in the game.

How does it work for unimproved food (production, faith etc)? becuase i ve seen, that if i plant woods later in the game i can sometimes get a tile to 6 production. if i place a lumber mill on it then it decreses somehow to 4 production.

Do you know, if the farms need to be from the same city? So could I get the bonus, when some of the farms are use by another city?
@SentinalhMC6 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure that if you have farms adjacent from separate cities of yours that it works. I don't know about cities you don't own though, that would be interesting.
@50crowley6 жыл бұрын
Yes, it works. Adjacency is a standalone bonus that exists independent of borders. You can build an industrial zone next to mines owned by another player and it will count toward your adjacency. In fact, these tiles don't even need to be workable to count in your favor. Farms work the same way. So if you built a 4th ring of farms around your theoretical city, it would increase the theoretical maximum yield to 354!

Can you buy food like in older Civ's? If I am maxed out on tiles and no more room for farms, I am stuck. I dont follow the trade explanation either.
@Century_Chandra4 жыл бұрын
Move a trader to the city that needs food, send it to another one of your cities with food providing districts, the city now imports food, each city can only send one trade route to another city but you can send several trade routes from the same city to different cities. So if you have 4 other cities providing +5 food your city in the tundra suddenly get +20 food, internal trade is really useful for growing your new cities, I always put atleast one or two traders in new cities for that reason. So to make it perfectly clear it's the city you send the trader from that receive the benefits from the trade, which means you either have to build the trader in that city or move one of your existing traders there which you can do in exactly the same way you move spies

so basically arrange then rush feud?
@SentinalhMC6 жыл бұрын
I don't really rush Feudalism, though it is one of the civics you want to get pretty quickly but if you want to rush it then build 6 farms to get the boost.

Great video, I was wondering if you use the city as a trading post whould you still get the district food bonuses if only passing through? I it certainately would seem like you can get them on the way back maybe?
@SentinalhMC7 жыл бұрын
I think there might be some policies that can do that but as far as I know the trading posts are meant to add gold and extend the trade range.
@shadowspawn997 жыл бұрын
Thanks for clearing that up. Keep up the work. I Just completed the trans-sibirian railroad so I had trade routes on my mine.
