Most fairy tales started as dark stories meant to scare and teach rather than give hope. He's taking them back to their roots then modifying them with moral greyness and Witchery stuff.

There is a simple lesson to be learned from this. The further away a witness is from a situation, the more the truth of said situation is exaggerated. The intentions of one's deeds are lost and the truth behind their actions is distorted. Distance is an obstacle for historians, for the further away in time you are, the more the truth is lost, and the further away from the event you are physically, the more detached you are from it.

Always love your Witcher summaries and looking forward to them man (gotta emphasize, you need more people viewing these videos). Looking forward to ones covered in the Netflix show, but ones that haven't been covered yet, like "Eternal Flame" & "A little Sacrifice" as well. p.s. I think the show could have used a better way of explaining the Tridam Ultimatum. Having read the books, I didn't really have trouble why Geralt went to the market after sleeping with Renfri (even without Alderman's explanation), but for those who haven't read the books, I think couple of them were scratching their heads saying "How did Geralt know exactly where to go?" (even though Renfri references "the market" very briefly in their first scene at the tavern).

It's a fun reference, I think borrowing from old fairytales and twisting them in his own way was a stroke of genius. All my favorite Witcher stories are the ones with these references.
