Taming the wild agate. These things must be done at times. Sometimes I find an agate that is too fractured to be knapped into primitive tools. If they are pretty enough, I polish them. ...not primitive but, oh well...

I can tell so much effort went into the visual story telling; All the editing and setting up all the shots. Multiple shots making it look like he just casually walked into the house out of the woods with his dogs, while being cameraman at the same time. Thank you for the effort.

Just today my father gifted me a polished agate, he has no idea where he got it, it's been sitting in a box for years. It's 3" x 2" and 3/4" thick. I turn it to the side and can see 5 layers. It's a fractured beauty! I went searching for anything like it and found this video. It was cool to see from the find to the polish!

I like how you looked at the agate and left the "character" in it. I've been picking for 40-plus years and as I've gotten older, I tend to look at agates in a different way. Some are obviously gem quality, but I've been drawn more to agates that have a lot going on within them (I hope you know what I mean). Leaving a big part of it in the raw, natural state is a great touch. Beautiful stone by the way. One of the most relaxing hobbies there is and addicting. The concentration level necessary to seriously be looking for agates removes all the cares of the world and it's great "therapy". I primarily pick in the Porcupine Mountain area of Lake Superior in the UP, MI. I good find never gets old. Thanks for the video.

Great educational video. I'm glad that you mentioned recognizing how "fractured" the rock was. It's important to know what you can and cannot do with an individual stone, or you can easily end up with something not even close to what you intended. Very important when you are making jewelry or any other type of shape. Thank you.

Cool video; loved the style and approch. Wow,it was almost spiritual. I love agate and grew up in a family of "rockhounds." We had equipment similar to yours .... so your video brought back many happy memories. I could feel the gritty water splatering on my face, smell dust, feel the sanding paper and polish. Wow, mixing polishing compound....wow.... I want the compound to get under my fingernails. Thanks for sharing your shop and passion in this fantastic video.

What grit are the first 2 steps? And then you go from 220 to polish? Did i miss an intermediate step? Nice shine at the end.
@funnythingslakesuperioraga33315 жыл бұрын
You can use 30 but it's very rough and it's not good for brittle material. 60 wintered, or 80 electro plated wheel, then 220, 280, 600, then yellow and pink wheel. I think it's 5,000 and 7,000
