Vartan Oskanian: Karabakh's Soviet-era autonomous status must be a negotiation benchmark

Armenia’s former foreign minister Vartan Oskanian (1998-2008), in a video posted on his Facebook page, suggests that the agenda of the talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan must necessarily include the fact that the people of Nagorno-Karabakh had an autonomous status in Soviet times. “This should become a benchmark for any discussion concerning the future fate of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh.”

Aliyev used to talk about autonomous status when he was the loser - and we, the victors, ate khorovats, politicians said "Artsakh is Armenia" and filled their pockets with dirty money, and no one did anything to secure Artsakh's status in the eyes of the world, or prepare it for the inevitable second war. Now we suffer for our mistakes.
